Weatherization program is a federal grant program established to help reduce the heating and cooling costs for low income persons, particularly the elderly, disabled, and children, by improving the energy efficiency of their homes.

**Weatherization is NOT a home remodeling or renovation program. It does not repair or replace roofs or siding, and cannot work on homes where there is a roof leak. Weatherization cannot install storm windows or doors, or skirting on mobile homes.

Works with income-eligible homeowners to make their homes safer and more energy efficient by eliminating heat loss and air infiltration areas in the home. After the initial assessment, recommendations on home improvements are given to the homeowner and the Weatherization team will coordinate repairs with contractors. Examples of common improvements include sealing cracks, insulating attics, or repairing windows and doors. All improvements are completed at no cost to the homeowner.

NEICAC’s own crews provide all but appliance and furnace repair services. Certified area contractors and vendors do the authorized appliance and furnace work. Agency staff does a quality control final inspection. Besides their regular efforts, the Weatherization staff also administer contracts with the investor owned utilities of the area to install low-cost, energy efficient measures in eligible homes, such as LED lighting, low-flow faucet aerators, showerheads, and hot water heater measures.

1) must be located within the Polk County portion of the participating cities.
2) the property to be assisted must be the homeowner's primary residence and a single family structure.
3) property taxes and/or mortgage payments must be current and paid to date and there cannot be any mechanics liens on the property to be assisted.
4) income limits of the household must fall at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for Polk County. Priority is given to households at 50% or less of the Area Median Income.
