Responsibilities include preservation of the public peace and order, the prevention and detection of crime, the enforcement of the laws of the state and the ordinances of the city, and the provisions of non law-enforcement services to the public. Also provides community training in areas such as crime prevention, gang awareness, and traffic safety; referrals are made to various community agencies as needed.
