PEER MENTORING | LAKE COUNTY CENTER FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING
One of the four core services of a center for independent living is peer mentoring. Since a majority of the staff and board are people with disabilities, peer counseling is inherent in what LCCIL does as a center. The counseling provided is not that of a professional trained in the medical model of disability, but, rather, the sharing of everyday experiences, skills and resources between people with disabilities.
