Eligibility

Open to all Iowa residents in need of having something notarized, or to any Iowan that wants to be a notary, to be a Notary, individuals must be ages 18 and older, a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, must not be disqualified to be a notary under Iowa Code section 9B.23, must be a resident of the state of Iowa or a resident of a state bordering Iowa if the place of work or business is in Iowa, individuals must be able to read and write English, and must file an application with the Secretary of State's office

Fees

For notary services, Flat fee of $5, then $1 for every page, to become a licensed Notary, $30 for both initial applications and renewal applications

Description

The Iowa Secretary of State's office issues Notary Public commissions for the State of Iowa. The responsibilities of an Iowa Notary Public are critical to the legal, business, financial, and real estate communities in the state. A Notary Public is a person commissioned by the Secretary of State to serve the public as an impartial and unbiased witness by identifying persons who come before the notary. The most common function of the notary is to witness and attest that a person signing a document is authentic.
