EITC (EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT) AND CHILD TAX CREDIT PROGRAM | IOWA DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE

EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) is a tax credit for working individuals and families. Must file a tax return, even if you do not owe any tax or are not required to file. Earned income includes: wages, tips and income from self-employment. Individuals who are on SSI or SSDI do not qualify for EITC unless they also worked during the past year. Call IRS at 1-800-829-1040 with any other questions.

ELIGIBILITY depends on such factors as filing status, income level, and the number of qualifying children (if any). Basic qualifications, Tax Year 2023:

If earned less than $56,838 ($63,398 if married) with 3 or more qualifying children, could receive up to $7,430.
If earned less than $52,918 ($59,478 if married) with two qualifying children, could receive up to $6,604.
If earned less than $46,560 ($53,120 if married) with one qualifying child, could receive up to $3,995.
If earned less than $17,640 ($24,210 if married) with no qualifying children, could receive up to $600.

Child Tax Credit: for the 2022 tax year, the CTC is worth $2,000 per qualifying dependent child if the modified adjusted gross income is $400,000 or below (married filing jointly) or $200,000 or below (all other filers). If the maximum adjusted gross income exceeds those limits, the credit amount will be reduced by $50 for each $1,000 of income exceeding the threshold until it is eliminated.
