Fees

  • Monthly house payments vary depending upon the income of the family
  • Interest-free mortgages are adjusted so that the payments, including taxes and insurance, usually do not exceed 25% of the family's income
  • Homeowners also pay an "average" of $300 per month into an escrow account that is used to pay insurance and taxes
  • Homeowners make a $500 down payment toward principal

Offers a homeownership program empowering first time homebuyers (defined by HUD as one who has not owned a home in the past three years,) to build and purchase a home with an affordable mortgage, no more than 30% of their gross income. Habitat homes are not given away, but sold to families who qualify, make a down payment, put in volunteer hours and can obtain a qualifying first mortgage at least 50% of the appraised value.
