Children at Home is a program offering help to families caring for a child with a disability by providing financial assistance for items or services not covered by other programs. Contact an Intake and Referral Specialist with any questions as to whether an item/service is allowable. Examples include special adaptive devices, out-of-area travel expenses, nutritional supplements, respite care or educational seminars for caregivers, special camps and items to make your home safe or more accessible for your child.

Bus tickets are provided for for those participating in the General Assistance program and Work Readiness Program.

Offers students free bus rides on all fixed routes operated by Cedar Rapids Transit. Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) high school students, and Coe College, and Kirkwood Community College students will need to show their student ID. CRCSD elementary and middle school students are not required to show ID.

May provide grants for gas, insurance, DMV fees (licensing and registration), vehicle repairs, bus/Uber/Lyft rides, and more, for local transportation only.

This grant program focuses on persons in a temporary transportation crisis, including persons who have lost a job, lost income due to a death of a loved one, experienced high medical bills, experienced a natural disaster, or are starting over due to domestic violence, as well as other possible emergencies.

Those who qualify need a way to show stability moving forward past the temporary assistance provided.

The Campbell Fund distributes funds to those that are considered very low income for temporary financial needs. Help given is to cover basic needs.

The Campbell fund will consider the following requests:
  • Medical needs (including dental and vision)
  • City Utilities (excluding deposits and late fees)
  • Gas and Electric Utilities (excluding deposits)
  • Rent only if need is caused by medical issues or domestic violence
  • Grocery vouchers - one-time emergency
  • People Rides

Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation is a Community Action Agency. Family Service Specialists work with individuals and families facing difficult and crisis situations. They are able to provide assistance in connecting to needed community programs and services. In addition, base on funding and donations, the office can support a crisis fund which allows them to provide assistance with rent, medical and prescription expenses, gas money, utilities, and other basic necessities when the household is facing an emergency situation. The agency actively seeks funds for the crisis program and all funds donated to a county stay in that county and are used to support the residents of that county.

Education Scholarships awards scholarships annually to clients to aid them in obtaining formal education or occupational training. Scholarships may be used for tuition and fees, textbooks, supplies or room and/or board.

Employment Support assists eligible clients to obtain/maintain employment with such items as daycare costs, transportation, and work supplies. One-time support.

Information, Referral, Outreach: Provides access to needed resources through comprehensive outreach, information and referral services.

Operates on the upstairs level of the church building. Clients can call the church with a need and they will be directed to make an appointment to visit Women Helping Women.

Provides eligible customers with financial assistance to maintain employment, attend college/trade school, or meet basic transportation needs.

Provides a certain amount of money available each week for this program that changes from week to week. The agency will take applicants as long as the weekly funding holds out. Can be used for various needs, such as rent, power bills, and other essentials. Program may provide a referral for individuals needing more than $30.

Eligible participants receive subsidized or free bus tickets or transit passes to use for commuting to and from work until the date of the first paycheck.

Participants interested in the program must arrive at the Housing Stability Clinic on Mondays from 1 pm to 4 pm. Participants will need to state they are there for the bus ticket program.

Participants must demonstrate a need for transportation assistance due to lack of access to a personal vehicle, limited public transportation options, or financial constraints.

Eligibility is based on income; participant must have zero income to qualify for bus tickets. Participants must provide a document that verifies the start date of employment and the date of the first paycheck, as well as a work schedule leading up to the date of the first paycheck.

Program staff review applications, verify eligibility, and if a participant qualifies they will be notified during the appointment.

Can assist, when funding is available, eligible individuals and families with limited resources in need of help with past due or disconnected utilities, past due rent or mortgage, emergency medical and/or dental services, costs to engage in Mental Health services, costs to maintain or gain internet or phone access, transportation, vehicle repairs, swim lessons, seasonal swim passes, and costs associated with participation in extracurricular activities.

**While some costs may be covered under Federal funding sources, the Crisis Assistance program is largely funded by grants and donations. All Assistance identified above is dependent on available funding.
