The Iowa driver's license knowledge examination is printed in the following languages: Albanian, Arabic, Bosnian, Burmese, Cambodian, Chinese, English, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hmong, Italian, Korean, Laotian, Polish, Portugese, Russian, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Persons may consult with their local driver's license examiner if special translation arrangements are needed.

REAL ID can be obtained at the DOT office. Beginning October 1, 2020, TSA will require that you show a REAL ID-compliant license or ID to go through airport security. The REAL ID will also allow entrance into Federal or nuclear facilities. Documents required include proof of identification (official birth certificate with a seal, valid U.S. passport or most recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services immigration or refugee document), proof of social security number (social security card or W-2/1099), proof of residency (2 items showing your name and address where you live, no PO boxes e.g. utility bill, credit card bill statement, pay stub), proof of any legal name changes (marriage certificate, divorce decree, court order under petition for name change).

ONLINE RENEWAL system allows U.S. citizens to view their driving record and renew their license online (must be under 70-years-old, have a valid driver's license, not have any medical/vision conditions that may impact ability to drive, have same address and name) https://mymvd.iowadot.gov.

Dallas County Attorney's Office offers a driver's license reinstatement service through the County Attorney Payment Program (CAPP). This allows qualifying Dallas County residents with a suspended driver's license the opportunity to sign a County Attorney Payment Plan agreement to pay back delinquent fines which may allow individuals the chance to obtain their driver's license back. Must fill out financial affidavit and return it to the Dallas County Attorney's office. A review of the financial affidavit will determine if individual is eligible for the CAPP program. Individuals are not eligible for license reinstatement program if any of the following criteria apply:
  • License suspended for non-payment of Child Support
  • License suspended for out-of-state tickets
  • Failed to complete a substance abuse evaluation (if required by the DOT)
  • Failed to obtain an ignition interlock device (if required by the DOT)
  • Failed to complete the Drinking and Driving Class (if required by the DOT)
