Provides an opportunity for treatment services to individuals with brain health and co-occurring substance use disorders who have come into contact with the criminal justice system.
The program works to connect individuals to the appropriate level of community-based treatment for their brain health and co-occurring needs in hopes of improving their overall quality of life and reducing their involvement in the criminal justice system.

Program Goals: -Identify individuals with brain health and co-occurring disorders through referrals and screenings. -Connect Individuals to community-based agencies and services. -Provide short term, intensive case monitoring. -Reduce the number of incarcerated persons with brain health and co-occurring disorders in the jails throughout the CROSS Region.

Offers in-home family therapy and community support services to help keep children out of the juvenile court system and with their families. Provides assessments and appropriate behavioral health therapy services tto address any mental health diagnosis. Treatment can assist individuals with addressing emotions, behaviors and functioning issues in their daily lives.

Crisis Diversion Services are provided to address immediate problems or de-escalate situations with the intent to keep families together and avoid a child's removal from the family home

Educational, enrichment, and community service opportunities to help repair harm that was caused by a youth criminal's offense.
Jail diversion program for adults with a mental illness. The purpose of the program is to minimize the number of mentally ill individuals in jail by providing supportive services during incarceration followed by community-based treatment upon release. Services include, but not limited too, assistance with obtaining benefits, transportation and coordination of care. Staff will accompany individuals to needed appointments as an added support.

For youth who are at risk for, or who have committed law violations, the program provides positive development opportunities to prevent subsequent law violations and prepare them to live successfully in the community. Youth receive support in the areas of education, employment, basic living skills, crisis stabilization, and healthy relationships. Programs include electronic monitoring, community youth coaching, family support, and in-home family services.

Prevention, early intervention, and diversion program specifically designed for African American Youth to promote positive behaviors, critical thinking, problem solving, and strategies for success. The 10 week program uses the principles of Kwanzaa and African American historical facts to instill cultural pride and accountability.
Allows eligible defendants, referred by the Douglas County Attorney, to earn a dismissal/sealment of their current felony charge(s) in exchange for successfully completing an approximate 18-24 month voluntary program.

Is designed for defendants who reside in Linn County. This program was established as a collaborative effort with Linn County Mental Health and Disability Services to provide jail diversion and reentry services for people who have been diagnosed or thought to have a mental illness.

The Jail Diversion Program is offered to individuals in Jasper and Poweshiek Counties who are in contact with the criminal justice system because of a mental health or co-occurring disorder. Participation in the Jail Diversion Program is voluntary.

Program staff are able to assist with locating housing, applying for community assistance programs, locating employment, budgeting, promoting independent living skills and identifying and intervening where there are gaps in care. Staff also provide goal-related transportation.

Provides services pre- and post-release to 100 eligible adults in Scott County through a Department of Labor grant. Enrolled participants receive intensive case management, reentry planning, and workforce services which include career exploration, job readiness, occupational training, and employment placement.

Safer works in partnership with the Seventh Judicial District, Iowa DOC to support the reentry of individuals residing at the Work Release Center or Residential Correctional Facility and are scheduled to release between 20 to 270 days of program enrollment. Staff seek to build connections with local employers to assist participants in securing employment with the preparation to meet the needs of the local labor market while building the skillsets valued by employers. Enrollment period ends 12/31/2025.
Provides correctional services and programs in Polk County

Pre-Sentence Investigation (1000 Washington Avenue, Des Moines). A full-life history of an offender ordered by and provided to the Court to aid the judge in determining an appropriate sentence and/or correctional plan.

Adult Intensive Supervision Parole/Probation (910/1000 Washington Street, Des Moines). Intensive supervision/treatment.

Youthful Offender Pre-Trial Intervention Program (Bldg 65/66 Fort Des Moines, Des Moines). Youths ages 16 to 19 facing first time felony charges for crimes other than injury-causing assaults or involving dangerous weapons. Youths must be willing to plead guilty to criminal activity, although once the program has been completed, the charge is reduced to a non-felony offense. Within six months are required to perform community service, receive academic training, employment and other counseling, drug or alcohol abuse treatment if needed; and take part in a victim-offender reconciliation program.
