Forensic interviews when requested by law enforcement or Child Protective Services. A child interview specialist will conduct a video-taped forensic interview with the child. One of the goals of this interview is to reduce the number of times the child must tell the story of his/her abuse.

Medical exams to evaluate children who are suspected to have been abused or neglected.

Assessment and referrals by mental health professionals, who assess each child's needs and refer them to the appropriate therapy, support groups, and other resources. Families also receive help in "understanding the system".

Multidisciplinary teams consisting of law enforcement, Child Protective Services, medical professionals, prosecution, school personnel, Project Harmony staff, and other professionals regularly review cases to make certain children do not fall through the cracks. Teams work toward making changes and finding solutions to any problems in reporting and investigating child abuse, permanency, treatment, and system issues.

Temporary emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and accompanying children. Emergency needs such as food and clothing can be provided while in shelter, if needed.24 hour crisis line provides support, info and confidential emergency services available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Client advocacy is available to help support individuals through crisis, such as assistance in applying for Department of Health and Human Services economic assistance programs, finding a new place to live, or for emotional support and talking through options.

Legal advocacy provides assistance with filing domestic violence and harassment protection orders, legal referrals, help in finding legal representation, and court accompaniment.

Medical advocacy offers referrals and accompaniment as needed.

Bilingual advocacy provides immigration information for victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. To reach a Spanish-speaking advocate, contact the Spanish line or stop in at the Crete office to speak with a Spanish-speaking advocate.

Polk County Juvenile Court Services has jurisdiction to inquire into and to make certain statutory dispositions of cases of delinquent children. Serious cases are handled by formal court hearings and orders. Less serious cases are handled by counseling, informal adjustment or diversion to other public or private services. Children held in detention or in shelter care pending hearing and disposition are provided physical examination and professional nursing care, medical care and schooling suited to their ability. Mental examinations are provided when necessary for adequate evaluation of the child and to proper disposition of the case. If a child is adjudicated to be delinquent he/she can be placed on probation at home or in custody of other persons or private or public agency or can be committed to a state institution.

Confidential helpline to prevent child sexual abuse before a child is harmed.

Helpline staff provide guidance so adults can learn about sexual abuse; identify specialized treatment options and resources for themselves or someone they care about; develop prevention and safety plan strategies; find language for an effective conversation when they have concerns; and learn how to report concerns to authorities when appropriate.
