Head Start is a federally funded program that serves children (ages 3-5) and pregnant women, offering a school readiness program plus comprehensive services to children and their families who meet income guidelines.

Offers an Early Head Start for children ages 3 and under. Parents are taught the stages of a child's development and activities they can do with their child to nurture her or his development.

The Head Start approach addresses the educational, health, nutrition, social, mental health and literacy needs of the children. Children participate in activities that promote motor, language, social/emotional, cognitive skills, literacy, science and math. All classrooms provide an inclusive environment for children with disabilities. Nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack are provided daily through the CACFP program and Head Start partners with Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness to help children and families learn about healthy, local foods.

Points are earned for attendance at educational programs and healthy behaviors such as: reading to the baby, taking the child to a doctor's appointment, attending Lamaze classes, signing up for WIC, attending a dental exam during pregnancy. Points are redeemed for needed supplies such as diapers and wipes, car seats, baby supplies.
