Adult Education and Family Literacy | Black Hawk College

Adult education and family literacy classes are non-credit and provide a range of basic skill instruction, English as a Second Language, GED preparation, and in some cases, high school credit.  Classes are informal and instruction is individualized.  Classes may be held in a variety of facilities, including churches, industrial plants, schools, libraries, and housing projects.

Citizenship | Unity in Action

For 2024, course begins February 5th. Class days are Mondays and Wednesdays. Class times are 10 am-12:00 pm and 5:30 pm-7:30 pm.

Offers adult citizenship and civics courses in the evenings to assist with the naturalization process, preparing and navigating participants for naturalization/citizenship interviews.

Civics course provides the materials, tools, and strategies needed to become a United States citizen successfully.

Education and Civic Engagement Classes | Ethnic Minorities of Burma Advocacy and Resource Center (EMBARC)

Provides both English as a Second Language classes and Citizenship classes. Co-teachers are from the refugee communities served to better understand the students’ culture and the barriers that students face while accessing community resources. The program also provides weekly conversation hours and other community-based support.

Also provides citizenship focused classes for eligible students from Burma.
