GIVEAWAY LOCATION: the 15 DMARC Food Pantries around Polk County will have school supplies to hand out for the bash. Backpacks will be available at the food pantries starting Fall 2024.

Provides an annual backpack and grade-specific school supplies drive for K-12 students; no preschool students.

Students must be pre-registered for the supply drive. Open to Iowa residents only.

For 2024, the registration link is available July 15th-July 19th. Applicants must be able to pick up their own backpack on Saturday, August 17th, 2024.

On Saturday, Aug 17th, 2024, applicants will enter the middle entrance at the 16th Street parking lot. Parking lot will not be accessible until 9:30 am. Signs will be posted. All participants must stay in their vehicles until their time to enter, based on the first letter of their last name:

-- Parents with last name starting with A-D are served 10 am-11 am.

-- Parents with last name starting with E-M are served 11 am-12 pm.

-- Parents with last name starting with N-Z are served 12 pm-1 pm.

Offered to low income families who reside in West Des Moines and are in need of back to school supplies. Supply giveaway is in August. Appointments are required. See website for more details.
Provides donated school supplies for area children.

Offers free school supplies for Jones County families. Families may call the Jones County Family Resource Center to register for the free school supplies.

Free school supplies and backpacks are available to children in need via the Ramblin' Rose bus, and at the regular Effingham location. The bus travels to towns in the seven-county area to provide the supplies.

School clothing is also available from the bus, or families may choose to receive a voucher and shop for their clothing at Second Hand Rose Resale Shoppe in the Effingham Catholic Charities location.

Provides free school supplies and book bags in the fall for income eligible students Pre-K through high school in Brown, Pike and Schuyler counties. In some cases fees for extra curricular activities may be covered for income eligible junior and senior high school students.

Contact your local Two Rivers Regional Council office to schedule an appointment for school supplies in July.

One-day book bag giveaway event, held on Saturday, August 10th, 2024. Hours are 12 pm-5 pm.


Held at YouTurn campus (4344 North 34th Avenue) and Skinner Magnet (4304 North 33rd Street).


2,500 free book bags will be given away to K-12 students; no documentation is needed.

Collaborates with the public school system and parents to encourage student academic achievement and create cultural awareness within the community. Generally, funds are utilized to pay for the Coordinator's services, purchase basic school supplies, supplement parent-cost items, and to cover costs for the year-end banquet recognizing seniors and the achievements of all K-12 students in the area. The program is open to all Native American students who are residents of Madison County and can provide proof of enrollment with a tribe.

School Supplies are donated and given to needy students at the beginning of each school year through the Back to School Fair. Pre-registration is required, call or visit the United Way of Mahaska County to register.

Thrift shop with vouchers provided by most churches, government offices, and community agencies.

School supply distribution.

Santa's workshop provides Christmas presents.
