Responds to public information needs or issues related to health and safety. Works collaboratively with other community entities to formulate responses to issues impacting public health.

Major program areas include:

- CHRONIC DISEASE PREVENTION PROGRAM: Promotes activities that encourage healthy living, embrace health screenings for early detection of disease, and encourage self-management of existing diseases. Works to reduce chronic diseases among racial/ethnic minorities and other vulnerable residents. Activities include community education on topics like reducing childhood obesity, increasing physical activity and healthy eating habits, diabetes prevention or control, learning to manage chronic health problems, and colorectal cancer awareness.

- INJURY PREVENTION and SAFE KIDS: Coordinates activities directed at reducing unintentional injuries and death. Print material, videos, and presentations are available on bike and pedestrian safety, fall prevention, child passenger safety/occupant restraints, and home safety. Provides child passenger safety seat inspections, offering guidance on selecting appropriate car seats based on a child's height and weight, correct installation, and proper use. Also provides child passenger safety seats, including booster seats for older children. 

Additionally, supports the health and development of infants and toddlers through well-baby care services, which may include health screenings and immunizations. 

Services are available to Union County residents through the Union County Matura Community Action Agency Office at (641) 782-8431.
