Provides a limited monthly disbursed grant for individuals to be used to pay for basic needs including food, rent/shelter, utilities, clothing or other essentials. The maximum monthly benefit for a General Assistance recipient has been set at $200.

Offers needs-based assistance to those facing emergencies that are life-threatening and/or work-related. Applicant may have dependents.

Provides assistance to all eligible Veterans discharged from active military service under honorable conditions and/or their family members in applying for federal benefits and other Veteran's aid. Services include support with emergency funding when available, food vouchers for purchasing groceries, transportation expense assistance for fuel expense and utility service payment assistance to prevent or address utility shutoffs. Additional services include access to low-cost or hard-to-obtain prescription medications, general relief for indigent individuals, and guidance on Veteran burial benefits, including burial in national cemeteries, headstones, markers, and burial flags.

The Allamakee County Relief Office provides emergency financial assistance in the areas of rent, gas money, utilities, prescription drugs, and funeral and cemetery expenses. This financial aid can be granted in addition to other types of financial aid the person may be receiving such as Social Security or Food Stamps on a one-time emergency basis. All financial assistance payments are made to the service providers, not to the clients themselves.

A locally administered welfare program that provides monthly financial assistance to persons who do not have adequate income or resources to provide for their own basic needs. To qualify, the individual must meet certain financial and residential criteria, and not be eligible for any other state or federal assistance programs.

Financial assistance provided through this program may include rent, mortgage payments, board and room, utilities, clothing and non-food items.

Assistance is limited to those persons in Douglas County between the ages of 19 and 64-67 (dependent upon when an individual is eligible for Social Security benefits) who are not eligible for other public assistance and/or do not have sufficient income or resources to meet all or part of their shelter needs. Eligibility is based on income and resources. Monthly income and resource guidelines vary based on the number of persons in the household. For example, a one-person household's monthly net income cannot exceed $825.00 and a two-person household's monthly net income cannot exceed $950.00. Households with monthly income that exceeds those amounts are not eligible for assistance.

All General Assistance payments are made directly to the landlord, and/or utility company.

Provides rent, utility, or medication assistance. Does not assist with past due rent/utilities or rent/utility deposits. Does not assist anyone eligible or receiving FIP. Repayment agreement is required.

Interim Disability Program assists adults who are 100% disabled as deemed by their doctor and have zero income and resources in the household. All members of the household must meet requirements to qualify for this program.

Back to Work program provides assistance for up to 3 consecutive months not to exceed a fixed limit for a 1 month period. Clients must complete 40 volunteer hours and submit 8 job applications per month.

One-Time Needy Assistance Program provides assistance once within a Fiscal Year with the amount of assistance not to exceed a fixed limit; clients must have a plan to pay future bills.

Provides a Burial Assistance Program; approved person must have been previously residing in Pottawattamie County but considered homeless, i.e. indigent, transient.

The General Assistance Program is to be considered the agency of last resort; all callers will be directed to contact other assistance agencies prior to funding consideration.

Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation is a Community Action Agency. Family Service Specialists work with individuals and families facing difficult and crisis situations. They are able to provide assistance in connecting to needed community programs and services. In addition, base on funding and donations, the office can support a crisis fund which allows them to provide assistance with rent, medical and prescription expenses, gas money, utilities, and other basic necessities when the household is facing an emergency situation. The agency actively seeks funds for the crisis program and all funds donated to a county stay in that county and are used to support the residents of that county.
