Volunteers can serve at HIRTA Helps' volunteer stations, which are local public agencies and nonprofits. Volunteers receive mileage reimbursement and supplemental and liability insurance.

Provides a nutrition program that includes home-delivered and congregate meals that are prepared through the Meal Site located on the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska reservation. The congregate meals are served during the lunch hour Monday-Friday. Home­-delivered meals are delivered to persons in poorer health. In order to receive home­-delivered meals, seniors need to be present for congregate meals two times a week unless health ailments interfere.

Other services that are provided include information/referral, outreach, transportation, homemaker, chore, telephoning, and visiting. The caregiver program provides a temporary period of relief or rest for caregiver of a frail elder in the form of in home respite care, adult day care respite, or respite for an overnight stay on an intermittent, occasional, or emergency basis.

Offers a Lending Closet with medical equipment to be used on a loan basis.

Fully trained and certified Homecare Assistants help with a variety of tasks, including:

Foster Grandparents provide service to children with special needs in schools, Head Start or Health facilities. Volunteers who are age 55 and older and meet income guidelines agree to serve a minimum of 10 hours per week and receive a tax-free stipend of $4/hour and other benefits.

Senior Companion Program provides older adults with special needs assistance in their homes. Volunteers who are age 55 and older and meet income guidelines agree to serve a minimum of 10 hours per week and receive a tax-free stipend of $4/hour and other benefits.

Provides connection services to county seniors. Offering friendly visits or friendly phone calls.

Offers in-home visits to check in on individuals who are homebound.

Provides non-medical in-home care providing assistance with personal care, mobility, medication management, shopping, transportation, meal preparation as well as provide respite and supportive community living services. Offers free in-home consultations.

Assists individuals and their families with homemaker services. Homemaker services can include friendly visiting, transportation and escort, shopping and errand running, minor home and yard maintenance, letter writing and reading, and respite.

Provides socialization to other seniors by calling 1-2 times a month. Volunteer callers are matched by similar interests and schedule compatibility and receive training on how to ensure calls are respectful, meaningful, and enjoyable.

In-home services for seniors help support daily living and well-being.

Services include:

• Friendly companionship and social time.

• Help with a clean, healthy, and safe home.

• Rides to medical appointments within 10 miles.

• Preparation of special diets based on medical instructions.

• Help with personal care, such as bathing and grooming.

• Meal preparation.

• Laundry washing.

• Running errands, such as picking up groceries or supplies.

• Light housecleaning and simple chores.
