Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets are offered through some Mid-Sioux Opportunity outreach offices, as well as Christmas gift distribution programs. Dates and times vary by location. Families are encouraged to contact their local office for details.

Thanksgiving Assistance 2025 - Meal vouchers will be given for Thanksgiving 2025. Must visit in person for services, first come first serve basis. Decatur County may accept up to 60 individuals. Wayne County may accept up to 25 individuals.

Holiday assistance for 2025 includes Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas gifts (for children up to age 18). Baskets are distributed via the MATURA Adams County Outreach Center.

Delivers a Thanksgiving meal to older adults ages 60 and older.

Individuals must order meals by November 19, 2025.

Thanksgiving 2025

Provides a Thanksgiving meal to anyone in need. The facility is handicapped accessible, but meals can be delivered to individuals who cannot make it to the restaurant for pick-up (open to anyone). Orders must be called in and are taken until the day before Thanksgiving or they run out. Deliveries are only made to these zip codes: 50009, 50309, 50310, 50311, 50312, 50313, 50314, 50315, 50316, 50317, 50265, 50320, 50321, 50322 and 50324. Limit of eight meals per household. Carry-out orders are available and can be picked up on Thanksgiving Day between the hours of 11 am-2 pm. Must be present for the delivery. Deliveries will be dropped off Thanksgiving starting between 9:30 am-10 am. Delivery time can't be determined.

**Answering service will ask for name, address, zip code, phone number, and the number of meals needed. *DO NOT CALL THE RESTAURANT, THEY CANNOT HELP WITH DELIVERY OR PASS ON MESSAGES.

Thanksgiving Food distribution for 2025: 

This WILL count as your November Pantry. One pantry distribution per address. IDs are required for each household member. Forms of ID accepted: 

• Driver’s license • Passport • School/Work ID • Housing Authority ID • Tribal ID • Mug shot • Social Security Card• Birth certificate• Medicaid/Medicare card

Clients may not receive food at one pantry and receive food at the other. Clients attempting to receive food at more than one Heartland Hope pantry per address will be denied.

Offers a community Thanksgiving meal in November. Residents may apply for special food box and toy distributions for Christmas.

Helps provide Christmas gifts for children and senior adults each year. Once registered and accepted, each Angel’s Christmas wish list is shared with donors in the community, who purchase new clothing and toys for the family.

Offers an invitation to individuals to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with others each year, usually the Friday before Thanksgiving.

Holiday meals 2025 for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter are served at Bethel Mission's Hope Cafe (1310 6th Avenue).

Christmas meal 2025 home delivery can be reserved by calling (515) 265-4277 or online at hopiowa.org. Orders will be taken form Dec 1st ,2025 - Dec 17th, 2025 at 4 pm or until full. Christmas meals are delivered to Altoona, Clive, Des Moines, Johnston, Pleasant Hill, Urbandale, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights.

Christmas can be enjoyed at Hope Cafe on Christmas day Thursday, Dec 25, 2025 from 12 pm-1 pm.

Thanksgiving 2025 meal delivers to those who are in the following zip codes 50317, 50327, 50009. Thanksgiving meal delivery will be from 9:30 am-11am, pick-up will be from 11 am-11:30 am, dine in will be from 11:30 am-1 pm on Thanksgiving Day.

Same for Christmas meal delivery. Christmas reservations will not be taken until after Thanksgiving. After December 1, 2025.

Offering thanksgiving baskets for families in need on Monday, November 24th, 2025, during regular hours as supplies last. Baskets include a turkey, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, sweet potatoes, pie, green beans, and a roasting pan. Donations of any amount are appreciated.

Thanksgiving food basket program. Provides $35 voucher to purchase Thanksgiving food at Save A Lot grocery store. The applicant will be given a voucher at the time they apply.

Provides seasonal meal boxes to families in need for the holidays. We pack and distribute 350 boxes in November for our Turkey Time Together event, and 350 in December for our Family! Feast! These boxes are available by signing up. Information will be provided on the website when availability begins.

Provides Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for families unable to create a meal themselves. There are two options for a meal - a homemade meal offered at the facility on the holiday or, can provide a Christmas dinner box to struggling families. Each box feeds a family of six and includes meat, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, biscuits, cake mix and more.
