NAMI Central Iowa's primary missions are to support people affected by mental illness, educate with facts about mental health topics, and advocate for mental health concerns.

NAMI Peer-to-Peer | a free, 8-session course for adults living with mental illness (diagnosed or undiagnosed).
NAMI Family-to-Family | a free, 8-session course for family, significant others, and friends of adults living with mental illness.
NAMI Basics | a free 6-session group education program for parents or family caregivers of children and teens experiencing symptoms of mental illness or already diagnosed.
Iowa State University NAMI on Campus | a free, mental health student group providing education and awareness resources.
NAMI on Campus at Grinnell | a free, metal health student group providing education and awareness resources at Grinnell College led by adults impacted by mental illness.

Every NAMI signature program is free to those we serve.

NAMI Support Groups: Meet weekly providing support for adults living with mental illness and also for the family members caring for their loved one.
NAMI Educational Courses: Offered 3 to 4 times per year for the adult living with mental illness and for the family member or friend who wants to learn how to support their loved one.
NAMI public presentations: courageous adults living in recovery share their mental illness journey with the public.
NAMI Ending the Silence is for junior high and high schools,
NAMI In Our Own Voice is for the general public.

Offers a full range of general counseling and psychotherapy services including individual (adult, child and adolescent), group, marital, and family counseling for persons with emotional, relationship, and life adjustment issues. Counseling is holistic in approach, integrating mind-body-spirit for healing. Sliding payment scale is available for those without insurance.

Include intensive psychotherapy (depression, stress, self-esteem, marriage, divorce, family, and grief counseling); psychological testing and evaluation; consultation to businesses, educational and religious institutions. and counseling for pre-school through high school age age youth and their families. The Center staff is interdisciplinary and includes pastoral counselors, psychologists, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, a healing touch practitioner and spiritual director, career counselor, a psychiatrist and psychiatric P.A.

NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group is a free, peer-led support group for any adult who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. Participants gain insight from hearing the challenges and successes of others, and the groups are led by trained leaders who have gone through the same experiences.

NAMI Family Support Group is a peer-led support group for any adult with a loved one who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. Gain insight from the challenges and successes of others facing similar experiences.

Hearing Voices/Special Messages is a support group for individuals with this unique experience. It is lead by peers who have lived experience with this.

Provides inpatient and outpatient mental health services. Services include treatment for depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, self-harm and suicidality, family/relationship problems, OCD, and confusion/memory loss.

Provides 12 Step program support where individuals share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem with clutter and help each other to recover. Offers in person and online support resources, conferences, and meetings.

Offers help and hope to people struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, panic, compulsions and other nervous symptoms and emotional problems. At weekly meetings, people learn practical coping techniques to manage negative thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors and replace them with healthy thinking and constructive activity. Meetings last two hours.

Services for adults with mental illness.

- Day rehabilitation programs provide daily living skills, pre-vocational, social skills training, and special activities.

- Community support services provide one-to-one assistance in independent living, to maximize community participation and enhance quality of life.

- Residential rehabilitation provides a structured skill-building program within a group home setting.

- Vocational services provides work-related training, both on and off the job, to assist individuals with mental illness to choose, obtain, and retain employment.

- Peer Specialists are trained to assist those newly diagnosed with a mental health issue or are in the midst of recovery and need motivation. Peer Specialists offer insight for dealing with mental illness and how it impacts work, relationships, finances, health, and more. They also connect clients with resources and programs.

- Assertive Community Treatment services provide a clinical team that delivers treatment, rehabilitation, and support services for persons in the community.

- Case management services including assistance in applying for entitlements/financial aid, and coordination of services.

- Community housing (e.g. apartments) linked with mental health rehabilitation and support services.

- Family education services offer education and support to family members affected by mental illness. Individual and family sessions available. Family to Family classes offered every eight weeks.

- Psychiatric Outpatient including medication management and counseling coupled with primary health care services. Also includes care coordination and health and wellness services.

- First Episode Psychosis services for persons 14-34 years of age and experiencing first time with psychosis.

- Crisis Services provides immediate mental health support for people of all ages to help resolve a crisis situation. The team will come to the client as a mobile crisis team as needed and provide follow-up support after the crisis. Contact is available from a crisis team member and/or therapist within 24-48 hours after delivering crisis services. Tele-health options are available for follow-up.

- Peer support specialists provide peer navigation services for individuals who are struggling or are in recovery from opioid addiction. Peer staff will provide assistance with accessing treatment services, care coordination to access community-based services, and support that helps in promoting recovery.
