Administers licenses for beer/liquor, cigarette sales, pushcart/peddler/solicitor/ transient merchant/mobile food unit; taxi cab/limousine license, and tow fees.

The Housing Inspections Division is part of the Building Services Department and is located in the City Services Center. The Housing Inspections Division is responsible for inspections of all residential rental properties within the City of Cedar Rapids as well as investigating rental property complaints.

The Housing Inspections Division uses the International Property Maintenance Code with local amendments as the adopted Housing Code for the City of Cedar Rapids.

The intent of the Housing Code is to ensure public health, safety and welfare insofar as they are affected by the continued occupancy and maintenance of structures, heating equipment, electrical equipment, sanitation, life safety, and other hazards associated with the premises. Minimum levels of health and safety shall be maintained by the owner, owner's authorized agent or operator as required by the Code.

Provides garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection to residential properties.

Issues permits for signs, billboards, construction of buildings, repair, additions, and demolitions. Also issues permits for moving housing structures, street occupancy, zoning services, tower registration, family daycares, registration and licenses for electrical, heating, air conditioning, and plumbing.

Provides street and bridge maintenance.

Provides government and utility services to the residents of Waukee.

Provides government services to the residents of Greenfield.

Provides sanitary sewer, storm sewer and drainage-way maintenance to the community.

Administers local government projects and programs on behalf of City Council.

Provides garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection to residential properties.

Responsible for the issuance of building, demolition, plumbing and zoning permits. Enforces City nuisance, building, zoning and rental housing codes. Manages various grant programs including Brownfields, HUD Lead Based Paint Program and HUD Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program.

Provides financial assistance to owner-occupants city-wide for home rehabilitation like electrical hazards, plumbing sanitation or leak issues, faulty heating/roofing items (does not include help with mobile homes).

Rental Inspections Program is responsible for the registration of all residential rentals in the City limits of Marshalltown. Units are inspected approximately every three years for compliance. Staff also respond to written complaints from tenants.
