DISASTER ASSISTANCE is money or direct assistance to individuals, families and businesses in an area whose property has been damaged or destroyed by a disaster and whose losses are not covered by insurance. It is meant to help with critical expenses that cannot be covered in other ways. This assistance is not intended to restore damaged property to its condition before the disaster. If a county has received an Individual Assistance declaration, residents are eligible to register with FEMA.

Call (800) 621-3362 or TTY (800) 462-7585, Mon-Sun 6 am-12 midnight Central; or apply online www.disasterassistance.gov.

FEMA works with every household on a case-by-case basis. How to apply:
-- Visit DisasterAssistance.gov
-- Call FEMA directly at (800) 621-FEMA. [(800) 621-3362)]
-- Download and use the FEMA app

FEMA can provide money that does not have to be repaid for:

-- Serious needs, such as food, water, medicine, baby formula
-- Displacement, if you can't stay in your home because of the damage.
