Collects donations of used eye glasses, hearing aids, and old cell phones at various sites in Bettendorf including the Bettendorf Library.

Has a directory of Lions Clubs and would refer based on where inquirer lives for possible assistance with glasses and hearing aid needs. Accepts donations of used eyeglasses for third world projects. Also accepts used hearing aids. Eye screenings for children 6 months to 48 months.

PROJECTS include an Eye Bank and donor information.

Carol's Closet can help veterans, seniors, and persons with disabilities with household items including furniture and bedding, hospital beds, walkers, wheelchairs (including motorized), shower chairs, commodes and adult hygiene items. In addition, Carol's Closet can help families with newborn baby clothes to size 6 children's clothes, diapers, new cribs and car seats, baby essentials, and household items including dishes, furniture and bedding. Carol's Closet also has a handicap accessible van and standing lift for loan with a donation. Carol's Closet accepts donations of good and has opportunities for people to volunteer.

Offers durable medical and assistive technology equipment for loan to anyone in need. Will accept gently used assistive devices and medical equipment for the loan closet.

Home furnishings warehouse of SCCO, for previously-owned furniture or appliances. Accepts used items in good working condition, microwave size or larger.

FOR CUSTOMERS:

Donated items are priced and tagged for sale to the general public. Income-based discounts may apply; see Program Fees for details.

Sold Items - A "Sold" tag is placed on items with full payment. Arrangements must be made to pick up purchased items as soon as possible or for items to be delivered. Hero's Attic cannot store a customer's furniture but may hold items for up to 2 business days in order for customers to measure or contemplate a purchase.

Delivery Fee - A minimum fee of $10.00 will be charged for deliveries in and 10 miles around Harlan City Limits, with an additional $1.00 per extra mile (within a 20-mile radius of Harlan).


MEDICAL EQUIPMENT:

Accepts donations of used medical equipment to loan out to clients for free, for those in need of a wheelchair, crutches, or a cane, etc., on a short term basis. Occasionally has scooters or hospital beds to loan.


FOR DONORS:

All donations are tax deductible (donation receipt provided). The values of the items are determined by the donor.

Drop Off Donations - Items may be dropped off during regular business hours; arrangements must be made if staff is needed to help with unloading. Donations may NOT be left outside the building when closed.

Donation Pick-Up Service - A minimum fee of $10.00 will be charged for pick-ups in and 10 miles around Harlan City Limits, with an additional $1.00 per extra mile (within a 20-mile radius of Harlan).

Quality - Donated items must be clean and in good working order. Higher quality items may be given a "Premier" tag, noting that discounts do not apply to the item. Donations are NOT accepted for items that belong in the dump.

General assistance provides emergency financial assistance for utilities.

Offers a medical equipment loan program, which also accepts donations of medical equipment.

Provides notary services and voter registration.

Handles applications for Senior Freeze/Property Taxes and Circuit Breaker program for seniors and disabled persons, as well as food stamps application.

Provides property tax assessments and appeals.

Provides durable medical equipment, specialty orthotics, and adaptive solutions for central Iowa children and young adults. There are specialists to educate parents and caregivers in how to safely use assistive technology for each child. ChildServe provides a wide range of adaptive or medical equipment from pediatric seating and mobility fitting to wheelchairs, adaptive devices, augmentative communication devices, custom braces, helmets, medical supplies and (prosthetics Johnston Only).

Receives donations of unused ostomy products from all over the country.

Loans durable medical equipment for a nominal processing fee.

The Country Store has clothing (baby, children's, school, maternity, adult, plus size, winter, formal wear, shoes), household goods, small kitchen appliances, bedding/linen, bed frames, office supplies, tools, and walkers/wheelchairs, etc. at moderate prices. Availability of items depends on what has been donated. The County Store accepts vouchers (for clothing and household goods) issued by local agencies. In times of community or personal disaster (fire, flood, tornado, chemical spill, etc.) in Howard County, may provide clothing and blankets free of charge. Donations accepted during store hours and volunteer opportunities available.

Offers an equipment loan program that purchases new and used equipment such as walkers, bath aids, toileting aids, adapted swings, adapted bikes, low tech switches and communication devices, bedside tables and other types of products which a person with disabilities might need. This program also accepts donated wheelchairs and other equipment that are then reconditioned and loaned out to other clients. Can also loan out electric powered lift chairs.
