Oversees care for adults with serious mental illness. Services include case management, psychiatry, and medication management, as well as outreach for everything from job training to primary healthcare to daily life skills.

Offers MEDICAID (Medical Assistance) to people who are low income and aged (65 and older), disabled (including blindness), women needing treatment for cancer or pre-cancerous conditions of breast or cervix (who have been screened and diagnosed through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program and who do not have credible health insurance coverage), children under 21 years of age, pregnant women, parents or other caretaker relatives of children under age 18 (or under age 19 if they are attending secondary school and are expected to graduate before age 19). Medicaid will pay the costs of Health care, Dental care, In-home health care, Nursing facility care or Residential facility care.

Coordinated Entry is the front door to homeless services. It is the first point of contact for those who need housing assistance. It provides guidance to anyone experiencing homelessness to the correct support and housing programs most appropriate to their situation. PROACTIVE AND SHORT-TERM PROGRAMS STREET OUTREACH: collaborate with local partners to meet individuals and families experiencing homelessness where they are and offer assistance in camps and on the street. LIBRARY OUTREACH: regular hours at libraries in Ames, Boone and Marshalltown where people experiencing homelessness can meet with a case worker and work on a housing plan. EMERGENCY SHELTER: short-term emergency shelter and housing support services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Provides food, financial education, and health and wellbeing assistance. LONG-TERM PROGRAMS SUPPORTIVE HOUSING: client-focused services based on the degree of need and the severity of barriers individual/families are facing. Will help clients secure affordable housing and provide the tools needed to overcome financial barriers and maintain a permanent home. Individualized support services, including life skills counseling, employment assistance, budgeting and financial literacy, and community resources referrals are also provided. CONNECTION TO COMMUNITY SERVICES: connects clients to various external programs and community resources to help them achieve sustainable, healthy outcomes.

- Those who cannot afford the clothing, furniture, and other household items are provided them through a referral system. Clients must apply through the SSVP Omaha District Office [(402) 779-8499] to acquire a thrift store voucher.

Provides police services responsible for emergency assessment and response.

Supports individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the process of accessing housing services. This is not a guarantee of immediate housing, but a critical first step toward potential assistance. 

Eligible clients complete a standardized need and risk assessment, which places them on a housing prioritization list. Housing programs review this list and select clients as space and funding become available. Placement and timing depend on program availability, eligibility criteria, and prioritization factors.

Provides health care services to adults in Waterloo, Butler County, and Traer locations. Adult medical services include chronic disease management, immunizations, family planning, midwife care, physicals, cancer screenings, preventative screenings, STD testing and treatment, HIV testing, and referrals to specialists. 

Offers child care, preschool, before/after school, school days out, and summer programs, as well as Early Head Start.

In-home and community-based program designed to reduce youth and family risks that contribute to delinquent behavior while increasing youth and family protective factors.

- Family Consultants work with families to improve youth and family functioning in the home while preventing the need for youth to be detained or referred to an out-of-home setting.

- Each family has an individualized service plan developed that addresses emotional, behavioral, social and educational needs of at-risk youth and families.

- Services provided to the youth and family include: teaching cognitive behavioral techniques and skills that promote self-sufficiency, developing problem-solving skills, practicing new skills, and developing skills to help communication.

Works to help Veterans on their recovery journey through outpatient and inpatient services. The residential facility helps Veterans deal with substance abuse, homelessness, mental health, and unemployment through its 24-hour therapeutic and educational programs.

Foster Grandparent program provides volunteer service to disadvantaged or disabled youth. Foster grandparents are individuals age 55 and over. Income-eligible foster grandparents receive a modest stipend to help offset the costs of volunteering.

RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) offers people 55 and older volunteer positions in the community.

Provides a dual-diagnosis/co-occurring mental health and substance abuse treatment facility. Services include treatment to those with substance use disorder, with or without a mental health diagnosis. Substance use treatment options vary by location, but may include residential treatment, outpatient treatment, virtual addiction treatment, and detoxification.

Offers programs and activities geared toward seniors. People can enjoy a meal with friends, play Bingo, pool, cards, and participate in line dancing and exercise classes. Special events and trips are also offered throughout the year.

Offers both short and long-term experiences for youth. Short-term experiences include afterschool programs, camps, school-sponsored activities, conferences, and other events. Long-term experiences include learning communities in agriculture such as county clubs.
