Offers visitation program for low-income families providing free services in partnership with their FaDSS Family Development Specialist who works with the whole family to address their basic needs, improve child well being, and develop career opportunities.

County level services: direct emergency economic aid for vital necessities to veterans, their widow, and dependents, according to their needs; personal visits for assistance and claims to housebound veterans or dependents; must have an honorable or under honorable conditions discharge from; active duty or wartime service; must be a resident in Nebraska in Phelps, Franklin, or Harlan County.

State level services do not require wartime service: applications for the Nebraska Veterans Aid Fund; fee exempt fishing and hunting permits; applications to the Nebraska Veterans Homes; waivers of tuition.

Federal level services provides and/or completes Veteran Administration forms for claims relating but not limited to: service connected compensation, disability pension, widow's pension, burial allowance, grave Markers/headstones, educational benefits, home loans, insurance, indebtedness, and character of service upgrades.

VA healthcare enrollment.

Connects pregnant women or couples, and parents of children ages 0-5, to free family support services.

All services are provided by family support specialists who offer advice and help with resources for parenting success. Every family is approached ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​without judgment and with a focus on connecting families to the appropriate support services.

Provides home delivered meals to seniors who qualify. When individuals call, an assessment will be set up to determine eligibility of the senior. If the senior has diabetes, let the intake specialist know so an appropriate meal can be provided. Sample menus can be sent out to individuals who are looking into signing up for the program.

Summer 2026:

Serves families in need by bringing free, nutritious dinnertime meals directly to conveniently located public places and serving them food-truck style. Runs each weeknight (except for holidays) during the summertime.

- Benson Park (by the basketball court): 5333 North 72nd Street, serving from 6:45 pm-7:15 pm.

- Hitchcock Park (by the swimming pool): 4220 Q Street, serving from 6 pm-6:45 pm.

- Community Bible Church (parking lot): 3616 South 132nd Street, serving from 6 pm-6:45 pm.

Offers community service opportunities for those that are needing a place to go to fulfill their community service hour obligations. A.Y.D.E. will place individuals in community projects that will have the most impact on neighborhoods in need.

Provides commodity food packages to eligible participants age 60 and older. Participants are given a pre-packaged grouping of foods by participant pick up or home delivery.

Offers a program for parents and youth individuals ages 10-14 to work together and build relationships. Participants will practice skills, play learning games, and do family projects in highly interactive sessions. Sessions are designed to increase family bonding, build positive communication skills, and solve problems together. 

Provides services for individuals ages 15-20 with mental illness or intellectual disabilities to build daily living skills, increase independence, and support community involvement.

Offers a food pantry.

Supportive home for those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction; residents must abide by the rules of the home, including never using drugs or alcohol while a resident. Homes may house men, women, women with children, or men with children.

Supplies rental housing (both subsidized and non-subsidized) to qualifying persons and a variety of local and federal housing programs. Housing programs, units and services are only available for people who wish to reside within the city of Lincoln.

Owns over 1,400 rental units to serve families and individuals who are elderly and/or disabled. Programs include market rate rents, affordable (tax credit) rents, and subsidized rents. Locations throughout the city of Lincoln. Specific eligibility determined by housing projects.

Section 8 voucher program provides rental assistance to qualified households. Clients rent from landlords with a portion of rent paid by LHA to the landlord.

Provides mental health and substance abuse treatment services for children, adolescents and adults. Also offers therapy, medication management, case management for children, adolescents and adults. Offers a full array of crisis intervention services for adults, including an Access Center, crisis stabilization/observation unit, and a mental health drop in center.

Offers support groups for:

-- Brain injuries.

-- Caregivers.

Provides parks and recreation programs, facilities, and activities for residents and visitors of Sumner. Services include youth athletics, aquatic activities, swimming lessons, park and shelter reservations, walking and hiking trails, camping, and access to recreational facilities.

Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive child development programs that serve children from birth to age five, pregnant women and their families. The programs are child-focused and have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families.

Both programs provide a range of individualized services in the areas of education, medical, dental and mental health, nutrition and social service to children and their families. Parent involvement is encouraged and support is offered for children with disabilities.

Offers MEDICAID (Medical Assistance) to people who are low income and aged (65 and older), disabled (including blindness), women needing treatment for cancer or pre-cancerous conditions of breast or cervix (who have been screened and diagnosed through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program and who do not have credible health insurance coverage), children under 21 years of age, pregnant women, parents or other caretaker relatives of children under age 18 (or under age 19 if they are attending secondary school and are expected to graduate before age 19). Medicaid will pay the costs of Health care, Dental care, In-home health care, Nursing facility care or Residential facility care.

Offers, as resources allow, to help refugees and asylees reach economic self-sufficiency and to them with any problems, interests and concerns they may have. The Bureau of Refugee Services works to serve as a central clearinghouse in order to refer refugees and asylees to any resource necessary and available to them. The Bureau is the service agency for all refugees enrolled in FIP, the state welfare reform program. Now offering a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) program. This program will help participants prepare for the class, enroll into the DMACC CDL program at no cost, and obtain a job after completion. Participants will also qualify for “Jump Start” training specially designed to help English Language Learners.

Offers services to support and strengthen the lives of adoptive parents, adult adopted persons, and birth parents by providing compassionate profiles, searches, and intermediary services.

Services include individual and family counseling by request from anyone involved in an adoption plan made through Catholic Charities at any time, a mutual consent registry, background histories and non-identifying profiles, and post adoption search and intermediary service in the form of indirect and direct contact between interested parties.
