LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) assists low-income homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs for the winter heating season. Assistance is based on household income, size, type of fuel and type of housing. The application period is from October 1-April 30 for elderly and disabled households and November 1-April 30th for the rest of the households. Persons applying must meet 200% poverty guidelines.

LIHEAP also offers a crisis program that may be able to assist homeowners who are with no heat or limited heat during the off months of the LIHEAP program (May-September). The furnace component for crisis runs October 1-April 30th.

Provides short-term out-of-county transportation assistance via bus to locations outside of Douglas County if the indiviudal:

- Has not resided in Douglas County for six consecutive months;

- Wishes to return to their place of residence or has secured a verifiable place to reside upon their arrival;

- Has secured a verifiable employment outside of Douglas County;

- Does not have an active warrant in the state of Nebraska.

CPR, First Aid, and AED training programs.

Offers the following Community Services: Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) provides services for adults with intellectual or mental disabilities, a qualifying brain injury or handicapping condition. Individualized support is provided in the client's home or other community-based settings and is available 24 hours.  Home-Based Habilitation Services (HBHS) are designed to assist individuals with serious and persistent mental illness with the acquisition, retention or improvement in skills related to living in the community. Services assist in the daily living needs of the client and can be provided 24 hours a day. Community Support Services (CSS) provide integrated services and supports to persons with a serious mental illness. Interdisciplinary teams provide assessments and service planning, monitoring of mental health symptoms, medication management, problem-solving assistance, coordination of appointments and transportation and support. 

Offers MEDICAID (Medical Assistance) to people who are low income and aged (65 and older), disabled (including blindness), women needing treatment for cancer or pre-cancerous conditions of breast or cervix (who have been screened and diagnosed through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program and who do not have credible health insurance coverage), children under 21 years of age, pregnant women, parents or other caretaker relatives of children under age 18 (or under age 19 if they are attending secondary school and are expected to graduate before age 19). Medicaid will pay the costs of Health care, Dental care, In-home health care, Nursing facility care or Residential facility care.

Offers workshops that teach individuals and families how to get more out of money and how to save money for financial goals. This is a series of workshops that are a blend of instruction and hands on activities so each concept can be mastered. 

Offers one time financial assistance to individuals and families experiencing a crisis that has caused a homeless or near homeless situation. Stability assistance can be used for past due rent, past due utilities, or propane (depending on county). Assistance is available sporadically and only when funding is available.

Provides information about how to prepare for an emergency, or join the Medical Reserve Corps.

Provides information on Parkinson's disease, including its causes, symptoms, treatment options, and therapeutic activities to do at home. Also offers resources and insights to foster understanding and awareness about living with Parkinson's disease, promoting positive communication and interaction with individuals affected by the condition. 

Full-service hospital, including Saturday in-person clinic (no appointment necessary), outpatient clinics, and health education classes which include diet and nutrition.

Offers Child Care Expense Assistance through the Iowa Department of Human services is available to the children of income-eligible parents who are absent for a portion of the day due to employment or participation in academic or vocational training or PROMISE JOBS activities. Assistance may also be available for a limited period of time to the children of a parent looking for employment. APPLY TO BE A REGISTERED CHILD CARE PROVIDER. Offers workshops that teach individuals and families how to get more out of money and how to save money for financial goals. This is a series of workshops that are a blend of instruction and hands on activities so each concept can be mastered. 

Training classes to small and micro business owners. Offers training sessions in business planning, credit building as an asset, pitching a business, Intro to Business, pricing products/services, and other areas.

Contracts with Nebraska Legal Aid to provide legal assistance.

Focuses on improving the nutrition, food safety, and physical activity of Nebraska's youth and adults. Includes diabetes education.

Offers early childhood preschool programs, Head Start and Early Head Start, in both a center and in-home based settings. Programs are offered for free to eligible families who have children six-weeks to four-years-old.

Provides community service programs for energy and environmental education. 

Assists eligible participants with overcoming educational and financial barriers with comprehensive, individualized support through collaboration with students, families, educational institutions and community agencies to provide a path to educational success.

Congregate Meals - All participating senior centers participate in both congregate meal and home delivered meal programs to help ensure the basic wellness of seniors. For those lacking a proper nutritious meal or unable to obtain meals by normal means, call the local senior center for assistance.

Hospice program provides support and care for persons with an advanced illness and with limited time to live. The goal is to provide comfort and minimize pain and stress for the terminally ill and their loved ones. Hospice care is designed to help the individual remain in the home, stay as active as possible, express and accept their feelings, ease pain, control symptoms, help the family care for their loved one at home, and manage practical tasks (i.e., running errands, preparing meals, getting medications, supplies, and equipment).

Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House provides a comfortable environment for those who have an end-stage terminal illness with a limited prognosis and who are not seeking active treatment for cure; provides pain and symptom management, respite care, and routine care for patients and their family or significant other.

Provides childcare services for school-aged children. Activities include creative art, quiet time, active games, manipulative and table games, building, music, and discovery. 

Assists individuals in Illinois in becoming licensed foster parents. Also provides follow-up training for foster parents to help meet the various needs of their foster children.

Services provided:

-- LCFS team provides guidance and support through the foster care experience.

-- Health insurance for the children placed in a foster home.

-- Therapy, counseling, and academic counseling, and special education services when needed.

-- Training programs, support groups, and newsletters geared to foster families.

-- Monthly financial support for the foster child(ren's) basic needs, including food, clothing, and housing costs.

-- Funding for daycare, after-school care, and extracurricular activities including sports and art programs for eligible children in foster care.
