Responsible for the regulation of the insurance industry operating in Illinois. Protects consumers by providing assistance and information, by efficiently regulating the insurance industry's market behavior and financial solvency, and by fostering a competitive insurance marketplace. They investigate consumer complaints, provide informational workshops, issue licenses to insurance companies, and issue licenses to individuals who self-insure.

Neighborhood Inspection Division has three primary responsibilities; rental inspections, the oversight of condemned buildings and the abatement of junk and debris which includes junk vehicles. Other services include:

Seeks to protect Illinois consumers and businesses victimized by fraud, deception, or unfair methods of competition. Within this division are the Franchise Bureau, Health Care Bureau, Charitable Trusts Bureau, Military and Veterans Rights Bureau, and Consumer Fraud Bureau.

The Consumer Fraud and Health Care Bureaus offer informal dispute resolution programs for consumers with complaints concerning their purchases and health care. Although the attorneys in the AG Office cannot represent any one individual in a lawsuit, a limited mediation program is offered to assist in resolving disputes or complaints filed by individual consumers.

Conducts peer review, a process by which the dental profession reviews and resolves problems or misunderstandings regarding dental treatment; the appropriate form will be sent to the patient. Once the complaint is received, it will be forwarded to the appropriate district for review. The peer review process handles only member complaints.

Inspections of all restaurants, food stores, processors and warehouses regarding sanitation, hygiene and food protection. Technical assistance is provided, including the review of plans for new establishments to insure proper equipment and construction, and the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) review of food preparation. Complaints are investigated, including those involving potential foodborne illnesses. The Program is advised by the Food Advisory Committee, which is composed of industry representatives and other citizens.

Administers the Volunteer Physician Program (VPN) that provides specialty care for Central Iowans who are uninsured, underinsured, or undocumented, whose income level is at or under 200% of the federal poverty guidelines, who are not eligible for any government funded programs. This program may be accessed through over 54 Safety Net and Free Clinics of Iowa, Primary Health Care and Proteus by referral, after a patient is financially vetted to qualify financially for this program and not be eligible for any other program.

The general public and any state employee can report suspected misconduct, waste, or fraud in the Medicaid program, SNAP (Food Stamp), TANF (including child care), and other Illinois public assistance programs by calling the Medicaid/Welfare Fraud Hotline or filling out the form on the website.
Accepts public utility consumer complaints, problems concerning services rendered, errors in billing and comments on proposed rate increases or in open dockets pending before the IUB, complaints on service of Relay Iowa and provides the equipment distribution program for Iowans with communications impairments.

Ensures consumer protection and promotes the responsible use of our natural resources, also responsible for Food Safety and Animal Health divisions, including meat processing regulation, pesticide application, grain warehouses and dairy production and processing. The Weights and Measures Bureau ensures buyers and sellers are treated fairly at the gas pump, grocery store or grain elevator.
