Nutrition and health information to income risk specific clients who are pregnant, post-partum, or breastfeeding, or a child ages 0-5. Nutritional vouchers are given for purchase of items in local WIC approved grocery stores of choice.

Federally funded supplemental food and nutrition education program intended to improve the nutritional status of eligible pregnant, postpartum, and breast feeding women, infants, and children up to the age of five. Includes family case management.

WIC participants receive ongoing nutritional assessments, medical assessments, and vouchers for nutritious foods intended to supplement their diet. WIC foods are individually determined for each participant.

Promotes and supports breastfeeding.

Case Management specifically helps:

-- Pregnant women in obtaining essential prenatal care

-- Children with an illness or injury that, if left untreated, could interfere with the child's health, growth, and development

-- Parents of young children in the early detection of unique health problems and assists in referring the child for treatment or other appropriate services

Offers a supplemental food and nutritional counseling service. All participants receive nutrition education and counseling, supplemental foods, and information about other health services based on assessment. A breastfeeding peer counselor is available to clients who need breastfeeding support.

Central point of contact for 7 counties in Nebraska; satellite clinics in Kimball, Sidney, Bridgeport, and Oshkosh.

Blood pressure screenings are available to identify individuals at risk of hypertension-related conditions.

Additionally, referrals to programs like WIC are provided to support nutrition, breastfeeding, and overall health for eligible individuals and families.

The overarching goals are to decrease unintended pregnancies, reduce the transmission of sexually transmitted infections, and promote comprehensive health and wellness.

WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that provides nutrition education and food instruments (coupons) to women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum; infants ages newborn to 1 year; and children ages 1 to 5. Coupons may be redeemed for milk, cheese, juice, cereal, and eggs, and formula is provided for the non-breast-feeding mom. During the summer months, farmers market vouchers are offered.
