COPING AFTER SUICIDE support group for families and/or friends of suicide victims

FREE COUNSELING and advocacy services for anyone affected by a violent crime or sexual assault (children and adults).

CASE COORDIANTION provided for Child Sexual Abuse Resource Coalition (C-SARC) and Intra-Family Sexual Abuse Program (IFSAP) cases. Volunteers and interns are trained to assist victims by providing crisis intervention, court advocacy, phone counseling and support group facilitation.

VIOLENT CRIME ASSISTANCE PROGRAM provides crisis intervention for victims, witnesses and their families in cases who have suffered emotional or physical trauma resulting from violent crimes. Purpose is to assist the victims and their families through support, counseling, advocacy, and agency liaison; as well as assisting the criminal justice system by helping the victim to become a good witness. Special services available to families of homicide victims.

TEEN SEXUAL ASSAULT GROUP / SIG-NA is a group for teen sexual assault at various high schools, on various days and times. Call for more information.

Services include psychiatric services (able to prescribe behavioral health-related medications when appropriate), counseling services (does not prescribe behavioral health-related medications), social services (includes housing issues), and crisis services (includes a 24 hour Crisis Line).

Trained responders are available to provide support, help to calm stressful situations, and connect individuals with the care they need. Callers may reach out if they, a friend, a family member, or a neighbor is:

- Feeling overwhelmed, anxious or hopeless.

- Talking about suicide or self-harm.

- Acting out in a way that seems unsafe or concerning.

- Struggling with stress, loss, addiction, or mental health concerns.

- In need of help, but unsure where to start.

There is no wrong reason to reach out.

Trained CRT responders answer calls 24 hours a day. If needed, a team member can meet in person, typically within 30 minutes. Responders listen, offer support, assess safety, and help plan next steps. Follow-up support is available in the days and weeks after the crisis. No police are involved.

Services are free and confidential. Your Life Iowa is accessible via website, online chat, text, or phone 24/7. Your Life Iowa is funded by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services and managed by Foundation 2.

***IDHHS has created a new BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICE SYSTEM which can be accessed by calling Your Life Iowa. A navigator will help individuals find and access mental health and substance abuse services.

Provides PROJECT RECOVERY a mental health program that activates during presidential declared disasters and works to assess the individuals immediate needs by helping them develop solutions to issues or problems that may be presented. This Iowa Department of Human Services program empowers and guides people to resources for ongoing support. The point of entry is through the IOWA CONCERN LINE Service provided are:

TELEPHONE CRISIS COUNSELING & REFERRAL assistance is free statewide.

INDIVIDUAL and GROUP CRISIS COUNSELING to help people access and identify resources that will aid in the recovery process. This includes resources that could aid in the recovery from severe storms and flooding.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES, on-site supportive, educational, face-to-face interventions with individuals and communities (school, church, etc).

REFERRALS: in some cases, survivors may need long-term, more formal mental health services beyond immediate services. Referrals are made to an appropriate agency or licensed mental health professional or to other specific disaster services available through DHS.

Provides 24-hour on-call and in-person crisis services for youth in Polk County. Crisis Responders provide assessments, interventions, and stabilization services in a public or community location for youth (ages 17 and under, or age 18 and enrolled in high school) who are experiencing crises such as: suicide ideation, substance use disorders, exposure to violence, and other behavioral and mental health situations.

Other services include counseling, mental health evaluations, safety planning, treatment plan development, recovery support services, medication administration, and more.
