The health department is constantly monitoring school absences in an attempt to determine a food borne outbreak or a disease outbreak. The health department is also required to have drills annually to see how quickly they could dispense medications to the population should a bioterrorist event or pandemic influenza occur.

The health department currently monitors what is happening in the world regarding different disease outbreaks.

Provides special education programs and diagnostic services to children with disabilities. Services include school psychology, school social work, speech and language therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, audiological services, early childhood services, special education instruction, and vocational instructions.

Offers psychiatric services to children ages 5 and up and adults needing the help of medication to address their mental health concerns. Services include psychiatric evaluation, psychotropic medication management, nursing support, and case management. Assistance is given by nursing staff to provide education, medication administration, medication monitoring, and medication training. Referrals and linkage to additional services/resources are provided as well to promote stabilization and enhance independent functioning.

Services are customized to address barriers and needs to help the participant and household reach housing stability and self-sufficiency. Services include:

Services include specialized support for runaway and homeless youth, offering emotional guidance and assistance in resolving underlying issues. Therapeutic interventions include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma recovery and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address thoughts and cognitions as behaviors. Multisystemic Therapy (MST) is provided for juvenile offenders as an alternative to residential treatment, focusing on improving family relations, peer associations, and school performance.

The program also offers Parent Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT), which uses real-time coaching to help parents manage childhood aggression and defiance while strengthening the parent-child relationship. Additionally, play therapy is utilized to help children express emotions and to assist in diagnosing the source of behavioral difficulties.

Offered to individuals (men/women) who are convicted of Domestic Abuse Assault within the Sixth Judicial District. Programming includes an intake/orientation session followed by group attendance. There is an alternative program for people with severe mental disorders, medical concerns, or other uncommon factors which require individualized services. Those appropriate for this group include: Court ordered clients, referrals from DHS and those who volunteer.

Offers a home visiting program which includes screenings, group connections, playgroups, family literacy events, and field trips.

Provides Halfway houses for adult men with substance abuse problems; 120-180 day treatment programs. Referrals to 3/4 way living situations.

Provides a food pantry, including frozen foods. Table of items for visitors to choose from to supplement box items available. May also provide food in emergency situations.

Provides a free radio service for the blind and visually impaired of east central Illinois. Services include daily readings of local newspapers, magazines, books and other periodicals. Reception of the programming is provided through a special receiver that is free or on-line or through Amazon Echo.

Accepts all food, personal care and hygiene, household cleaning supplies, diapers, wipes, formula, infant/toddler food, meats, dairy, eggs, cheese and other refrigerator/freezer foods. All shelf-stable foods accepted as well.
