Enforce Human Relations Code:
Resolution of complaints of unlawful discrimination in employment, public accommodation, and financing based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, ancestry, national origin, age, disability, and matriculation. Formal conciliation is attempted to resolve complaints. Failure of conciliation may lead to a public hearing of the matter before either the Commission or a Hearing Officer appointed by the Commission.
Advise and Consult:
The Commission advises the Town Council and consults with other public officials, citizens or citizen groups on matters involving racial, religious, sexual orientation, or ethnic prejudice or discrimination and may recommend appropriate actions.
Community Outreach:

Child Advocacy Center - McHenry County
Assists DCFS, law enforcement, and the States Attorney's Office in coordinating the investigation and prosecution of child sexual abuse/assault and/or severe physical abuse cases in McHenry County.
Provides the only approved site for forensic interviewing of child victims and provides advocacy for clients who may be involved in the judicial process. Also coordinates and provides advocacy for conducting specialized medical exams with qualified providers for alleged child victims of abuse.
Counseling (trauma based and abuse assessments) for survivors and non-offending family members is provided through a linkage agreement with a local agency of therapeutic services.
Services also include a crisis response through the McHenry County Crisis Line.

IMPACT Community Action Partnership – Polk County (Drake Neighborhood)
Provides financial assistance (up to $125) to households with a termination notice on their water utilities. The assistance can be provided once per calendar year for eligible households. Households will still be responsible for a portion of the payment to Water Works. If you are not a Des Moines Water Works customer and have a termination notice.
