Free smoke alarm installation.

The Red Cross hosts Sounds the Alarm in spring to install smoke alarms and help families learn about home fire safety.

Provides clearinghouse information on Down Syndrome. Also provides information concerning advocacy and support services for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.

Offers an after-school program for low-income children and families. Includes healthy meals and snacks, assistance with medical and dental care, educational field trips, and support services to the family.

Group activities for youth, including character-building programs that help nurture, educate, develop, and mentor youth.

Offers a Child Health program that provides developmental screenings, help finding a doctor or dentist, lead risk assessments and lead testing, oral health services, interpretive services and referrals to other resources. MADISON COUNTY CHILD HEALTH CLINIC:

Genetic testing and counseling; a genetic counselor will collect personal and family history and additional background information to help patient decide what tests might be best.

Genetic testing, through blood and/or saliva tests, can help people understand their risk for cancer, help them make medical decisions, and take steps to lower their cancer risk or detect cancer early. Genetic testing will then help patient and their physicians make medical decisions to proactively take steps to prevent or lower cancer risk and complete appropriate screening to detect cancer early.

Genetic counseling may be advised if your personal or family history includes any of the following:

- 2 or more close/primary family members with the same or related forms of cancer.

- Cancer diagnosed younger than age 50.

- Bilateral or multiple primary cancers.

- More than one cancer type in a family member.

- Ovarian cancer.

- Pancreatic cancer.

- Male breast cancer.

- Triple-negative breast cancer.

- Family history of a known gene mutation, including BRCA1 and MLH1.

- Colon or endometrial tumors with abnormal MSI/IHC.

- 10 or more gastrointestinal polyps.

- Metastatic prostate cancer.

Patient needs a physician referral to have a genetic counseling consultation; clients must visit with their oncologist, family medicine physician, or OBGYN. Upon this referral, a genetic counseling session at the Cancer Center will be scheduled.

Maintains and provides access to official real estate documents, contracts, articles of incorporation, partnerships, state and federal tax liens, military records, birth, divorce, death, and marriage records. Offers services for issuing and renewing licenses for ATVs, boats, snowmobiles, and fishing, as well as marriage licenses and certificates. Operates as a Passport acceptance facility with photo services and processes military records for tax exemptions and benefits.

Additionally, issues public health permits to certify compliance with health laws for various facilities and institutions. Services include the establishment of standards, review of applications, issuance of permits, and enforcement of compliance through inspections and monitoring. Open to all residents of Des Moines County.

Provides research-based strategies to support the holistic development of the young child. Offers information and/or classes about parenting, grandparenting, discipline, child care selection, children and divorce, and money management.

Provides placement and casework services for children who have been removed from their birth families because of abuse or neglect. Provides training, licensing, and services for foster families.

Offers a senior center for older adults ages 55 and older. Programs and services include arts and crafts, cards and games, computer, internet and printing services, day trips and tours, educational classes, health clinic services, fitness classes, a monthly AARP driver safety courses, or financial assistance may be available for those who qualify.

Provides transportation services to multiple counties.

Riders are encouraged to schedule trips at least one working day in advance (same-day service is available if space permits), and riders must be ready for pick-up 15 minutes prior to the scheduled pick-up time. Cancellations must be made at least two hours prior to pick-up time.

All vehicles are wheelchair accessible and ADA compliant.
