-- Illinois state law requires all children entering state operated day care, nursery school, preschool, or kindergarten to provide proof of a blood level assessment.

-- Women planning to have a baby should be tested for lead.

Offers books, books on CD, magazines, newspapers, DVD'S, Literacy kits(story time in a box), games and Library of Things to be checked out by the patrons of the library.  Also offers puzzles for anyone ,no checkout needed. The Library of Things contains a variety of items ranging from art kits to robots to a metal detector. Library of Things items can only be checked out by adult library card holders.

Full time fire department that is staffed all year around. Besides responding to emergency requests, the department is committed to fire prevention measures through three strategies:

- Fire safety education for children, young adults, and senior citizens through a fire station visit or site visit. Fire safety education includes safe cooking, escaping the home during a fire, and general fire safety in the home. Senior citizen safety education includes fall prevention and how to contact 911.

- The Juvenile Firesetter Program is a voluntary 4-step education program for children 4-18 years old who exhibit signs of fire setting behavior.

- The Fire Department supports citizens who need assistance with smoke detector maintenance and will install smoke detectors in the home, if requested.

Provides case/care management assessments for seniors who may need homemaker services.

Offers support groups for family and loved ones of adults living with mental illness. Also available in Spanish (Grupo de Apoyo Familiares de NAMI).

Provides support groups including Baby Bereavement Support Group for parents who have experienced loss during pregnancy, at birth or shortly after, or early SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) and Bariatric Support Group for Patients who have either had weight-loss surgery or are interested in having surgery.

Provides management and maintenance for vital records like birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, property tax, voter registration, and county elections. 

Vision and hearing screenings for school-aged children. Certified by the state of Illinois. Appropriate referrals to physicians are made if necessary.

Blood pressure checks for older adults.

Provides public health services and emergency preparedness. Disease surveillance (responsibility shared with NHHSS) a. School surveillance - absenteeism counts are collected weekly b. West Nile Virus - dead bird collection and testing and mosquito trapping and testing c. Rabies monitoring in animals and investigate potential human exposures d. Other community health threats, as needed: mold, pertussis, food-borne illness Scrubby Bear, an American Red Cross program that teaches proper hand-washing techniques to children in preschool through third grade. Vaccinations for children.

Provides childhood screenings. Additional services provided include home visits/contacts by a nurse case manager and educational materials about pregnancy, infants and children.

The program aims to address the needs of eligible Veterans and their families to reduce suicide risk and improve mental health status and well-being by providing wrap-around, nonclinical suicide prevention support services to eligible households.

Provides a food pantry to those in need. Individuals can come in during food pantry hours and 'shop' for items that can be taken home.
