Programs offered through Mills County General Relief are emergency rent and utility assistance, emergency food assistance (working in coordination with local food pantries), and burial assistance for indigent clients. Applications for Southern Iowa Regional Housing Authority (SIRHA) and rent reimbursement claims are also available.

The Mills County General Relief office helps clients assess their needs, assists in client referrals, and coordinates with other community resources as necessary. The General Relief office works closely with local organizations to ensure services are not duplicated and to maximize resources for resolving local poverty issues.

Provides help finding and keeping a job for individuals with disabilities or mental illness. Services may include job coaching, resume help, interview practice, and support at work.

Provides basic foods, nutrition counseling and access to health services for pregnant woman, breast feeding and non-nursing mothers, infants and children up to five years of age.

Provides confidential counseling to anyone, regardless of faith or background. Counselors help individuals, couples, and families maintain emotional health and strengthen relationships. Telehealth is available. 

Provides dental care services to children and adults. Services include exams, cleanings, periodontal cleanings, fillings, and crowns. Limited services offered on a case-by-case basis include partial dentures, oral surgery, extractions, and root canals.

Co-payment assistance for cancer related treatment. Funds cover specific diagnoses, and only FDA approved medications may be covered.

Provides police and dispatch services responsible for emergency assessment and response.

Provides services to pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children to age five years. Services include: Nutrition education, Food assistance, Breastfeeding education and support, Health/nutrition screenings, and Referrals to medical, social and community services.

Offers supervision and training in independent living skills for people who experience a cognitive disability and/or chronic mental illness and live in their own apartments or homes in the community. Also provides representative payee services.

Offers a one month summer recreation program for local children ages 5-11. Promotes art, music, crafts, physical activity, and access to a wide variety of programs.
