Offers a hand-up to area families in need of safe, decent and affordable housing. Works to keep homes affordable through the use of volunteer labor and affordable mortgages. Qualified applicants make less than 80 percent of the area median income and become full partners in the work of building or rehabilitating the future home. In order to become a Habitat homeowner, the applicant must meet the following criteria,
Have a demonstrated need for housing. Have a sufficient, stable and verifiable household income to support monthly mortgage payments. Mortgage payments do not exceed 30 percent of the homeowner’s household income.
Be willing to complete 200-300 hours of sweat equity. These hours are completed on the build sites and through time spent at a nine-part education series homeowners are required to complete prior to moving into their home

Floyd County General Assistance
Provides temporary assistance for basic needs, including rent/lot rent, utilities (gas, electric, water), food vouchers, and cremation services for eligible clients who are unable to work. Additionally, may offer support related to accessing prescription medication services, such as assistance with obtaining low-cost or hard-to-find medications or guidance to help individuals adhere to prescribed medication regimens.
Will County Center for Community Concerns
LIHEAP (low income home energy assistance program) provides assistance with a utility bill. Applications are accepted November 1 – August 15; for elderly or disabled individuals applications are accepted starting October 1. Income must fall within 200% of poverty guideline. Call for an appointment. A letter has been sent to those who may be eligible for early application in August or September.
Some applicants may qualify for the Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP), where an eligible client pays a percentage of their income, receives a monthly benefit towards their utility bill, and receives a reduction in overdue payments for every on-time payment they make by the bill due date. If the homeowner's furnace is not working or is dangerous or emitting carbon monoxide into the household, LIHEAP may be able to provide a furnace repair or replacement. Contact for more information.
**This program is not designed to pay a household's total energy costs. The program will provide supplemental assistance based on several factors. This is a one-time payment to your energy provider.

Care Horizon - Toledo
Offers assistance for older adults, who might otherwise need nursing home care, to remain in their own homes by providing in-home and community-based services. Services include comprehensive care coordination, adult day services, in-home services (cleaning, meals, laundry, shopping/running errands, and personal hygiene), emergency home response service, and automated medication dispenser service.
