Provides law enforcement services to the county.

Provides non-medical supportive services and shared housing assistance for adults transitioning from hospitals, shelters, and community programs. Services include assistance with daily living, supervision, transportation coordination, and stable housing placement in a structured environment.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) offers free tax preparation and electronic filing for low- to moderate-income Iowans, starting February 2026. Medicaid will pay the costs of Health care, Dental care, In-home health care, Nursing facility care or Residential facility care.

Home health care and hospice provider.

Coordinates necessary medical services and supportive care which may include skilled nursing, social work, home care, and transportation.

Provides hospice or palliative care, and also provides pediatric home care services and spiritual care services.

Maintains county parks and recreation areas and provides hunter safety classes, camping, fishing and boating information. Outdoor recreational opportunities are available through county parks and outdoor wildlife areas.

Provides grief support. 

-- The First Steps Grief Support Group: A bereavement group for anyone who has experienced loss. Offers support as the first steps are taken in dealing with a loss.

-- Living Through Grief: The group uses videos, books, speakers, and discussions to help participants learn more about the grief process, share stories, and regain hope for healing.

The First Steps Grief Support Group meets in the Conference Dining Room at FHN Memorial Hospital, and the Living Through Grief meets in the Deaconess Room at FHN Memorial Hospital.

Offers law enforcement services to the Mahaska County area. Issues gun/firearm permits, runs requested background checks, and manages the county Jail.

Offers new or nearly new clothing for informal, casual, school, and work as donations come in. Includes linen items such as sheets, blankets, and towels when donated. Also offers bra fitting assistance. 

Funding for water/sewer assistance is limited.

When funding is available, it can provide assistance in the form of benefit payments made directly to water vendors on behalf of households for past-due charges, fees, and taxes for drinking and wastewater services.

Provides food pantry items.

Provides Emergency Housing, Rapid Rehousing, and Homeless Prevention services to eligible veterans and their families. Temporary financial assistance, navigation, case management, and connection to other appropriate services and programs will be provided by a supportive team.

Offers primary care including family medicine, internal medicine, infectious disease management, pediatric care, OB/GYN services, prenatal and postpartum coordinated care with labor and delivery, immunizations and preventative screenings, and chronic care.
