Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service
Volunteer Iowa and its partner agencies work with organizations and individuals on three main fronts: 1) to help agencies develop quality programs that use service as a strategy to fulfill their missions and address Iowa’s greatest areas of need 2) to help engage Iowans in their communities by promoting service and expanding the volunteer base and 3) to connect individuals with appropriate service opportunities by building the volunteer infrastructure.
The commission provides information and technical assistance on community volunteering, volunteer management, mentoring program certification, Service Enterprise Initiative, and volunteer recognition. In addition, the commission administers Iowa's AmeriCorps programs, the Iowa Mentoring Partnership, Governor's Volunteer Awards and Volunteer Hall of Fame. Other services include: providing training and coordination for Volunteer Reception Centers, which are activated to coordinate volunteers during and after disasters; coordinating the Iowa Nonprofit Summit (a biennial conference on nonprofit and volunteer management); and, providing a statewide volunteer matching portal "Get Connected". More information and access to the portal is available at www.volunteeriowa.org.
