Iowa Homeless Youth Centers

Provides a safe place for at-risk and homeless youth (ages 16-24) in the Polk County area to connect with services. Services include street outreach, drop-in services, daily meals, emergency beds, an art studio, a computer lab, and mental health counseling options. 

The center also offers connections to additional YSS supportive housing programs, such as Lighthouses, Transitional Living Program, and Rapid Re-housing. Supportive services may include educational opportunities, life skills training, financial planning, and counseling to help youth and young adults, including single mothers and their infants, achieve self-sufficiency and progress toward their goals.

They offer practical support such as goal setting, skills building, and crisis intervention, alongside emotional encouragement. Through shared experiences, they serve as mentors and role models, helping individuals create personalized recovery plans and connect with resources for housing, employment, and social services.

DODGE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY (515-574-4700): A medium security men’s facility, emphasizing: academic and vocational education, psychological services and counseling, cognitive skills training, substance abuse program, reentry programs, anger management, parenting programs, family violence program, and MIFVPP IOWA CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION FOR WOMEN, MITCHELLVILLE (515-725-5042): Serves as the reception and classification center for all females entering the adult institutional corrections system. A medium security women's facility emphasizing academic and vocational education, prison industries, psychological counseling, cognitive skill training, substance abuse programs, violence prevention, pre-release program, reentry programs, anger management and parenting programs IOWA MEDICAL & CLASSIFICATION CENTER, CORALVILLE (319-626-2391): IMCC serves as the reception and classification center for all males 18 years of age and older entering the adult institutional corrections system. After extensive testing and assessment of risk, health and cognitive skills, they are then processed on to other facilities. A medium security general population unit is in operation at IMCC, as well as, a special needs unit with both medical and mental health beds. IMCC also runs the only licensed forensic psychiatric hospital in the state, providing inpatient psychiatric and evaluation service to non-adjudicated patients IOWA STATE PENITENTIARY, FT.
