Offers law enforcement services to the Des Moines County area. Issues gun/firearm permits, runs requested background checks, and manages the county Jail.

Offers caregivers to have access to education, skills, tools, and support to serve individuals in need. Program ensures a direct care workforce by supporting quality jobs to attract and retain people in the caregiving field. 

Provides health care and specialty health care services, including ambulatory and extended care and geriatric rehabilitation services.

A food pantry is available. Visitors are invited to listen to a brief (5-10 minute) sermon or announcements, but it is not a requirement.

Offers reading, Literacy, and Homework help during after school programming for K-12th grade students.

Provides training for potential foster parents and places children in homes that best meet their needs. Services for foster parents include ongoing training and development, 24-hour staff support, financial reimbursement, support groups, and respite care for personal time.

Public transportation system open to the general public for grocery shopping, medical and dental visits, congregate meals, going to work or school or personal business. (Transportation is based on availability).

Tax preparation for low income individuals/families and senior citizens (60 and over). Family Service Coordinators are trained to help prepare tax forms and/or answer tax questions. All offices are equipped to e-file, and coordinators also assist with Homestead Exemption preparation. No self-employed or farm returns are prepared.

For the 2024 tax season, clients must contact their local office for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Offers MEDICAID (Medical Assistance) to people who are low income and aged (65 and older), disabled (including blindness), women needing treatment for cancer or pre-cancerous conditions of breast or cervix (who have been screened and diagnosed through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program and who do not have credible health insurance coverage), children under 21 years of age, pregnant women, parents or other caretaker relatives of children under age 18 (or under age 19 if they are attending secondary school and are expected to graduate before age 19). Medicaid will pay the costs of Health care, Dental care, In-home health care, Nursing facility care or Residential facility care.

Provides a safe place for at-risk and homeless youth (ages 16-24) in the Polk County area to connect with services. Services include street outreach, drop-in services, daily meals, emergency beds, an art studio, a computer lab, and mental health counseling options. 

The center also offers connections to additional YSS supportive housing programs, such as Lighthouses, Transitional Living Program, and Rapid Re-housing. Supportive services may include educational opportunities, life skills training, financial planning, and counseling to help youth and young adults, including single mothers and their infants, achieve self-sufficiency and progress toward their goals.

Provides emotional and practical support to individuals facing mental health challenges. Using shared life experiences to offer encouragement, build hope, and foster empowerment. Peer support can help individuals navigate recovery, develop coping skills, and connect to community resources, all while promoting personal growth and self-advocacy. 

Family Peer Support, Family peer support specialists work specifically with families of individuals who are experiencing mental health challenges. Family peer specialists offer guidance, resources, and emotional support to help families better understand the struggles of their loved ones. Offering coping strategies, enhance communication within the family, and help families connect to services and support networks, fostering a more supportive home environment for recovery. 

Peer Recovery Specialists, peer recovery specialists assist individuals in achieving and maintaining long-term recovery from substance use disorders. They offer practical support such as goal setting, skills building, and crisis intervention, alongside emotional encouragement. Through shared experiences, they serve as mentors and role models, helping individuals create personalized recovery plans and connect with resources for housing, employment, and social services.

Responsible for the following correctional facilities: ANAMOSA STATE PENITENTIARY (319-462-3504): ASP is a high medium security men's facility emphasizing academic and vocation education, psychological service and counseling, cognitive skills training, licensed substance abuse program, family violence prevention, pre-release programming, and prison industries. ASP serves as the reception and classification center for all juvenile males adjudicated to the adult institutional corrections system CLARINDA CORRECTIONAL FACILITY (712-542-5634): A medium security men’s institution emphasizing: academic education, violence prevention, anger management, parenting programs, psychological counseling, cognitive skills training, substance abuse program, prison industry (trailer production), private family visitation, reentry program, pre-release program, vocational training, and special needs programs FT. DODGE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY (515-574-4700): A medium security men’s facility, emphasizing: academic and vocational education, psychological services and counseling, cognitive skills training, substance abuse program, reentry programs, anger management, parenting programs, family violence program, and MIFVPP IOWA CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION FOR WOMEN, MITCHELLVILLE (515-725-5042): Serves as the reception and classification center for all females entering the adult institutional corrections system. A medium security women's facility emphasizing academic and vocational education, prison industries, psychological counseling, cognitive skill training, substance abuse programs, violence prevention, pre-release program, reentry programs, anger management and parenting programs IOWA MEDICAL & CLASSIFICATION CENTER, CORALVILLE (319-626-2391): IMCC serves as the reception and classification center for all males 18 years of age and older entering the adult institutional corrections system. After extensive testing and assessment of risk, health and cognitive skills, they are then processed on to other facilities. A medium security general population unit is in operation at IMCC, as well as, a special needs unit with both medical and mental health beds. IMCC also runs the only licensed forensic psychiatric hospital in the state, providing inpatient psychiatric and evaluation service to non-adjudicated patients IOWA STATE PENITENTIARY, FT. MADISON (319-372-5432): A maximum security prison facility for men emphasizing: academic and vocational education, prison industries, psychological counseling, cognitive skills training, and offender treatment MT. PLEASANT WOMEN'S UNIT, Mt. Pleasant (319-385-9511): A medium/minimum security institution for women emphasizing cognitive based programming including substance abuse, sex offender programming, thinking for a change, and academic programming. Includes: violence prevention, anger management, parenting programs, psychological counseling, cognitive skills training, licensed substance abuse program, pre-release programs, off grounds work programs, Storybook, GED and literacy, CALM, Thinking for Success, criminality, Braille, Key-life skills, Blackhawk County Re-entry, prison industries, etc. NORTH CENTRAL CORRECTIONAL FACILITY, Rockwell City (712-297-7521): A minimum security facility for men emphasizing academic and vocational education, psychological counseling, cognitive skills training, licensed substance abuse program, parenting programs, leader dog training, family violence prevention, pre-release program, anger management, off grounds work, prison industries, and many other programs.
