Habitat for Humanity of the Rockford Area

Sells homes to qualified families who do not currently own a home. The family receives a no-interest loan from Rockford Habitat to purchase the home. The family will pay the loan back over the next 20 or so years. Loan length and mortgage payment are based on individual family income. The average mortgage payment is around $500 a month. Families must volunteer at least 200 sweat equity hours during the construction of their home and take three financial management courses prior to the closing.

To qualify for the program, 4 categories are evaluated:

- Residency.

- Ability to pay.

- Need.

- Willingness to partner.
