Advises and aids veterans and their dependents in applying for federal benefits through compensation or pension claims. Emergency financial assistance for basic necessities such as rent, mortgage interests payments, utilities, and burial expenses may be available. Staff will provide as needed training and assistance with all aspects of living independently. Offers voluntary programs to eligible landowners and agricultural producers to provide financial and technical assistance to help manage natural resources in a sustainable manner. Through these programs the agency approves contracts to provide financial assistance to help plan and implement conservation practices that address natural resource concerns or opportunities to help save energy, improve soil, water, plant, air, animal and related resources on agricultural lands and non-industrial private forest land, with emphasis on market stability and commodity pricing.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) offers free tax preparation and electronic filing for low- to moderate-income Iowans, starting February 2026. Offers MEDICAID (Medical Assistance) to people who are low income and aged (65 and older), disabled (including blindness), women needing treatment for cancer or pre-cancerous conditions of breast or cervix (who have been screened and diagnosed through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program and who do not have credible health insurance coverage), children under 21 years of age, pregnant women, parents or other caretaker relatives of children under age 18 (or under age 19 if they are attending secondary school and are expected to graduate before age 19). Medicaid will pay the costs of Health care, Dental care, In-home health care, Nursing facility care or Residential facility care.

Offers adult to child one to one mentoring. School based mentoring is offered in the Marshalltown, West Marshall and BCLUW school districts. Mentors must be at ages 16 and older. Community based mentoring is offered for youth who live in Marshall County. Mentors must be ages 18 and older.

Provides law enforcement services to the citizens of Waverly.

Provides a team of public health dental hygienists and community health workers to bring the Forever Smiles dental health program to child care facilities, schools, and senior care facilities. Services provided are fluoride treatments, sealants, education, and screenings for tooth decay and oral cancer. These services are meant to help slow down or stop dental decay.

The program is not meant to take the place of regular dentist checkups.
