Provides free services to individuals who have suffered physical, sexual, financial, or emotional harm as a result of a crime. Program staff and volunteers will respond to the emotional and physical needs of crime victims; assist primary and secondary crime victims in stabilizing their lives after victimization; assist victims in understanding and participating in the criminal justice system; and provide victims of crime with a measure of safety and security.
Types of cases covered by the program include domestic violence, phone offenses, crimes affecting persons over 65 years, assault, burglary, child abuse, DUI crashes, homicide or attempted homicide, identity theft, robbery, sexual assault, stalking, protection order violations, and threats.
Nation's leading crime victim advocacy and resource organization dedicated to serving individuals, families, and communities harmed by crime. Through collaboration with local, state, and federal partners the center provides direct services and resources, and advocates for passage of laws and public policies that create resources and secure rights and protection for individuals. Delivers training and technical assistance to victim service organizations, counselors,attorneys, criminal justice agencies and allied professionals.
Empowers Nebraskans statewide aged 60+ in overcoming hardships caused by abuse, neglect, and/or financial exploitation. The program offers strengths-based, trauma-informed, person-centered services and referrals using a statewide circle of support that allows seniors to remain independent.
Advocates and offers support to victims of crime. Works closely with law enforcement and other community agencies to ensure that the victim is protected from additional acts committed by the Defendant; to protect the children and other family members of the victim from exposure to, or possible injury inflicted by the Defendant; and to gather restitution information from the victims of crimes.
Provides restorative justice services such as victim notification, the facilitation of community accountability boards, victim-offender intervention sessions, family reunification meetings, victim impact panels, victim restitution assistance, victim advocacy within the criminal justice system, and victim impact classes.

Helps anyone that is a victim of a crime, or feels that they are, even if defendant is not arrested. Primarily serves Rock Island County, but will attempt to help any victim.
Iowa Safe at Home is an address confidentiality program that provides participants with a substitute address. Survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, stalking, assault, and other violent crimes can apply for Safe at Home. This program helps survivors improve their lives and prevent participant addresses from appearing on public records. Participants receive a substitute address, mail forwarding services, and confidential voter registration and absentee voting.
Safe place for children who are alleging sexual and/or physical abuse, have witnessed a violent crime, witness to domestic violence, and/or been kidnapped to be interviewed by law enforcement, case workers, or forensic interviewer. Coordinated multi-disciplinary approach to the ongoing investigation of child abuse cases which includes law enforcement, protection and safety workers, legal, mental health, medical and trained professionals. Hair testing for drug endangered children and S.A.N.E. exams for children ages 0-16 years. Provides referrals to mental health services and support groups, and follows the case through the legal system. Assists parents in reporting abuse or following up on reports already made. Offers community educational presentations.
S.A.N.E stands for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner which is a registered nurse or nurse practitioner who has completed specialized training to assist sexual assault victims. They collect all forensic evidence and perform exams.
The County Attorney provides prosecution and victim witness services, and is responsible for enforcement of laws and providing legal advice and defense to the county officials. Some of the duties of the County Attorney include prosecution of all crimes committed in the county; defense of the county in all action brought against it; collection of money due on forfeited bonds; legal advisor for the Board of Supervisors and other county officials in official business; and convene the grand jury.
Provides crime victim assistance including working with victims to obtain restitution, advising victims about court dates, and providing referrals to human service agencies.
The county attorney provides support and information for crime victims and witnesses including explaining the court process, informing victims and witnesses of charges filed, providing assistance with filing for victim compensation, providing referrals to other agencies and resources as needed, maintaining records of restitution payments, and assisting in returning property kept as evidence. Upon request, the county attorney will notify victims of all court hearings.
Riverview Center provides a free, confidential Hotline available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week for victims of sexual assault - individuals can call with questions, in crisis, or if needing to talk to an advocate. The Hotline provides emotional support and information regarding the Sexual Assault Examination Kit procedures, STD testing/treatment, and other medical choices. An advocate is available 24 hours a day to help with all emergency room interactions related to the assault. The advocate can also accompany a survivor to a police interview, assist with orders of protection, provide case updates, and attend all meetings and court proceedings with law enforcement and the prosecuting attorney’s office with or on behalf of the survivor.

Legal Advocacy provides legal advocates to serve as a liaison between the survivor and the criminal justice system to ensure that the survivor’s rights are protected; and
Counseling for survivors and non-offending family members in individual and group settings .
Supports and advocates for individuals who have lost a family member or friend through homicide or vehicular homicide. Provides emergency crisis support, court accompaniment, etc.
Free service to help victims of crime. Advocates guide victims through the criminal justice system and give information and referrals to other services for victims of crime in Douglas County.
The court process can be confusing and overwhelming. Advocates can answer questions and help victims understand the different steps that may happen in the court case, explain rights, and be present each step of the way.
The most important service provided by Victim Assistance Advocates is continued support for the victim and family throughout their involvement with the criminal justice system. Additional services available include:
-Information and orientation about the criminal justice system -Information on the status of each case -Help filing protection orders -Courtroom tours, trial preparation, court accompaniment -Help with Victim Impact Statements -Help requesting state victim funds -Referrals to community agencies
Offers help to victims with certain out-of-pocket expenses (when costs are not covered by insurance or other sources). It is funded entirely by fines and penalties paid by criminals (not by taxpayers). Program can pay for crime-related expenses such as medical care, counseling, lost wages, and funeral expenses (when costs are not covered by insurance or other sources). Can also pay for crime-scene clean-up, replacement of clothing held as evidence, replacement of security items, child or dependent care, housing/shelter expenses, relocation expenses and travel.
Provides help to those needing to find safety. Offering support with a trained Advocate in the criminal justice and social service systems and accompanied to law enforcement meetings and court proceedings. In addition there is help with opportunities for community education and counseling services.
