A protective service for limited-income seniors who need help managing their finances. Bill payer volunteers assist individuals who are able to make decisions about their financial affairs but who need help organizing bills and paying them on time.

Representative payee volunteers are appointed by Social Security to receive and manage benefits of a person who is determined incapable of managing his or her own finances. In contrast to the bill payer program, the representative payee signs the checks and has full control of the benefits. They pay bills and make sure the client's needs are being met.

Offers an 8-hour course that teaches how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training provides the skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing and mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

Also offers a course designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Topics include depression, anxiety, and eating disorders.

Offers English Language Acquisition (ELA) which is a language program designed for adults, 16 years and older, whose native language is not English. The ELA program helps students improve reading, writing, speaking and listening skills from literacy to the advanced level. Students improve English skills while also learning about U.S. culture. There is no tuition fee for these classes.

Before entry into the program, a student must obtain an English skills assessment for accurate placement. Placement testing is done weekly throughout most of the year.

Each center provides a coordinated program of professional services for adults in a community-based group setting.   Services include: Individualized plan for activity. Monitoring of health as required. Balanced meals and snacks prepared under supervision of a dietitians. Transportation may be arranged. Blood center provides blood and blood components to 86 hospitals in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin.  Works with volunteer blood donors and mobile blood drive host organizations to ensure blood products are available for local hospitals. Special services include autologous blood donation (when a patient donates his/her blood for upcoming elective surgery); therapeutic procedures (transfusions are performed for patients with leukemia and chronic anemia, plasma exchanges, injections of blood derivatives, and therapeutic phlebotomies for patients who have an over-production of red cells); and Youth Education (designed for elementary, junior high, or high school students, teaching them about the history of blood transfusion, details of the donation process, and the role of the community blood center).
