Aid and Attendance offers veterans and surviving spouses help with daily tasks in the home or assisted living. Veterans must have served at least 90 days during a period of war. If approved for the VA Aid and Attendance benefit, clients may choose any agency to provide the services, they are not obligated to choose this agency.
Service covered include help with daily activities such as dressing, bathing, meal preparation, and housekeeping.

Assists women and men who are studying to take the naturalization test and to become informed and participative U.S. citizens.
Provides two 12-week semesters of group classes to provide explanation, reinforcement, and practice. Volunteers work individually with those who are scheduled to take their naturalization test.
All classes and tutoring are in English.

Volunteers (Bigs) are matched with children, teen, and young adult mentees (“Littles”) in communities across McHenry County based on their interests, skill sets, experience and any other pertinent information. The matches are then provided with support and guidance from professional match support staff.
The matches spend anywhere from 4 to 8 hours per month together, and a 12 month commitment is required.

Provides an umbrella of services to help individuals that are experiencing homelessness.
Includes:
- Job training/earn a stipend daily based on sale of donated items; Stipend paid directly to a need
- Advocacy
- Free clothing and household items
- Transportation when other options are not available
- Mailbox usage for the purposes of obtaining a birth certificate, social security card, or employment
- Help with filling out forms
- Literacy help (Learn to read individual/groups offered)
United Way of Greater McHenry County
Funds Dolly Parton's Imagination Library for McHenry County. All children in McHenry County from birth to age 5 can be signed up by a parent to receive a free book in the mail each month.
