Addresses critical repair needs of low-income homeowners. The program focuses on making necessary repairs, modifications and improvements to ensure homes are safe, energy-efficient and accessible. Funding programs may require a forgivable loan, an affordable repayment plan or sweat equity hours through volunteer work or advocacy.

Kinds of repairs the program assists with:

- Roof repairs and replacements.

- Plumbing and electrical repairs.

- Heating and cooling system repairs.

- Foundation and structural repairs.

- Window and door replacements.

- Installation of wheelchair ramps.

- Widening doorways for accessibility.

- Installation of grab bars and handrails.

- Bathroom modifications for easier use.

- Chair lifts for multilevel accessibility.

Provides a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator to help manage diabetes and eating disorders. In-person at Christopher location, but via telehealth for other locations.

Works to ensure the fairness and integrity of the tax system for low-income taxpayers by educating about taxpayer rights and responsibilities, by providing free representation in tax disputes with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and by identifying and advocating for issues impacting low-income taxpayers.

The amount in controversy for any tax year generally should not exceed $50,000.

Provides home care services to individuals with a serious illness, regardless of age or stage of disease. Supportive care is provided in-home by a nurse, who works with other healthcare providers. Services can be provided along with healing treatments including nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social services, and home health aides.

County level services provide direct emergency economic aid for vital necessities to veterans, their widow, and dependents, according to their needs. Personal visits for assistance and claims to housebound veterans or dependents. Must have an honorable or under honorable conditions discharge from active duty or wartime service. Must be a resident in Nebraska for the past one year and 6 months of that year in Hamilton County.

State level services do not require wartime service and assist in completing applications for the Nebraska Veterans Aid Fund, fee exempt fishing and hunting permits, applications to the Nebraska Veterans Homes, and waivers of tuition.

Federal level services provide and/or complete Veteran Administration forms for claims relating but not limited to service connected compensation, disability pension, widow's pension, burial allowance, grave markers/headstones, educational benefits, home loans, insurance, indebtedness, and character of service upgrades.

Provides engineering and design of County roadway projects, including local resurfacing and bridge replacement. The division is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the County Secondary Road System, including ditch cleaning, roadway surface repairs, bridge and culvert repairs, and snow removal.

Law enforcement agency.

Provides gently used maternity clothing, baby clothing and nursery items to pregnant or those with a young baby. All requests are subject to clothing size and availability; items cannot be delivered or shipped; individuals must be able to pick up the items in person. Items have been generously donated and are in clean and good condition. 

-- Crisis Center: Crisis stabilization and residential treatment services to persons exhibiting symptoms of acute mental illness or extreme stress reactions and are at risk of hospitalization.

-- Psychiatric Response Team (PRT): Crisis services for individuals of all ages who present in local emergency departments with suspected psychiatric issues. Provides face-to-face crisis assessments in the ER to determine the level of care needed at that time.

Three to five-day supplemental food resource.

Disaster preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation. Information and education on emergency disaster preparedness.

Nutrition education and counseling, supplemental foods, and information for women, children, and infants about other health services based on assessment findings.

Offers affordable housing options. Unit sizes range from 1-4 bedrooms. Unit styles range from high-rise apartments to detached single-family units.

Provides necessary work clothing required to keep or obtain a job such as steel-toed boots, nursing scrubs, uniforms, etc. Computers are available for public use to construct resumes, do job search, fill out online job applications, etc.

Provides a financial literacy class that teaches kids essential money skills like saving, budgeting, and smart spending.
