Offers a Disability Access Point (DAP) that helps individuals with disabilities, their families, and caregivers find services and supports they need, both short-term and long-term. DAPs provide information, help individuals make informed choices, make referrals, and follow up to help ensure individuals receive the support they need to live healthy, independent lives.

Services include:

• Information and Assistance: Provides information about programs and services based on identified needs and helps connect individuals with service providers in their communities.

• Options Counseling: Helps individuals make informed choices about available supports and services, typically for up to 90 days. Services may include benefits screening, application assistance, and follow-up to ensure supports are meeting the individual's needs.

• Financial Assistance: Provides gap funding and service coordination for programs and services that support individuals and caregivers and help individuals remain in the home and community of their choice. Assistance may include short-term and long-term services.

Short-Term Supports (time-limited): Services may include adaptive and assistive equipment, home and vehicle modifications, peer and parent support services, transportation assistance, and other basic needs not covered by insurance.

Long-Term Services and Supports: Services may include adult day programs, consumer-directed attendant care (CDAC) (non-skilled and skilled), day habilitation, employment services, including job skills training, prevocational services, and supported employment, intensive residential services (IRSH), personal response systems, respite services, including in-home, in-facility, and day camps, home-based habilitation (hourly), and residential living settings.

Offers one-to-one mentoring relationships between adult volunteers and children. Services include matching children with adult mentors, providing opportunities for mentors and children to spend time together in community settings, and participating in activities such as walking, visiting museums, attending community or BBBS events, listening to music, and talking. Matches establish schedules based on the needs and availability of the mentor and child and may meet during weekdays or weekends.

Support group for individuals recovering from addiction and their family and friends.

Help line to answer questions about cocaine addiction and provide information on times and locations of support groups.

Offers visitation program for low-income families providing free services in partnership with their FaDSS Family Development Specialist who works with the whole family to address their basic needs, improve child well being, and develop career opportunities.

Guides child care programs to improve financial practices and optimize resources that benefit children, families, and their business.

- Coaches assist programs in using technology and child care management programs to streamline their businesses and save time and money.

- Assists with family support through invoicing, receiving payments, communication regarding a child, policy manuals, etc.

- Supports running their business by scheduling staff, capturing in/out times for billing, processes billing to HHS, etc.

Provides counseling services for both individual treatment and group work. It can be focused on a specific issue or focused on broader patterns of thinking and behavior. Both require an individual to learn new, healthier ways to think and interact.

Online counseling option also available. An online session is conducted the same as an in-person session, with the exception of never having to leave the home or office. The format is face-to-face, in real time, over a computer.

Curbside food pantry. Also have food bags available for the homeless that do not require cooking.

A non-clinical, membership drop-in-center.

Advocates for consumers in the areas of mental health services, housing, financial issues, substance abuse, and medical issues. These services are offered through local support agencies.

Offers a pscyho-social environment with access to computers, TV, a pool table, newspapers, a telephone, and limited food services.

Helps people with little income buy food for a healthy diet. An application for Food Assistance must be completed to receive this assistance. Call or visit website for more detailed information.

Provides park and recreational services to the residents of Ames. The Department manages 40 parks and offers almost 200 programs and activities throughout the year. Programs include swim lessons, fitness and wellness classes, youth and adult sports, and more. Enjoy activities at one of the facilities which include Homewood Golf Course, Ames/ISU Ice Arena, Furman Aquatic Center, Community Center, and Ames City Auditorium.

Provides help finding and keeping a job for individuals with disabilities or mental illness. Services may include job coaching, resume help, interview practice, and support at work.

Provides a community food pantry.

Provides free clothing to individuals and families through a clothing assistance program. Participants may shop once per month and select up to 10 clothing items per person, plus one pair of socks and one pair of underwear.

Assists anyone who is experiencing or has experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking. Operates a 24/7 crisis hotline to assist in a crisis. Also offers an inclusive, safe, and welcoming space where survivors can access a range of services in one location, including crisis intervention and long-term supportive care.

- ADVOCACY: Skilled guidance in the aftermath of a crisis to aid in safety planning, assessing immediate needs, identifying

resources, and navigating the various systems survivors may encounter.

- SELF-SUFFICIENCY: Specialized case management to assist with planning, monitoring, and achieving goals leading to independence, empowerment, and safety.

- HOUSING: Support locating emergency housing for immediate safety and relocation to permanent, stable housing.

- LEGAL: Professional advice and assistance with legal matters related to a survivor’s experience of abuse.

- CLINICAL: Crisis counseling, direct therapeutic assistance, and support in processing emotions and experiences in the aftermath of a crisis.

- PEER SUPPORT: Facilitated group dialogue for exploring experiences, receiving support, and working through the stigma of victimization among peers.

Provides a Veteran's Employment Specialist to assist with coordinating counseling, testing, and identifying training and employment opportunities for veterans.

Provides a food pantry that can be accessed once a month by appointment only. 

Offers a free and confidential crisis line for veterans. Can also help with local suicide prevention coordinators, who can connect veterans to ongoing counseling and services in their area.

Offers a six-month residential recovery program for men with substance use disorder or behavioral health issues.
