It strives to raise public awareness and concern about mental illness, to foster research, to improve treatment and to upgrade the care delivery system. All site locations offer a variety of support groups and educational programs for those with mental health concerns their family and friends.

Offers classes to women wishing to learn to read, write, and speak English.

Students are individually tested and receive materials targeted to their goals and learning level. Students come for tutoring for 1 ½ hours a week, and may also participate in twice-weekly conversation classes.

All classes and tutoring are in English.

Women may also check out bilingual books to read to their children. Some training materials (documents and videos) are available on website.

Provides a food pantry to anyone in the community who is in need of food assistance.

Provides hospice and end-of-life care for terminally ill individuals in the Iowa Department of Corrections. Offers comfort-focused care and spiritual, emotional, physical, and psychological support to help individuals manage end-of-life needs with dignity and as little pain as possible. Services are provided in a hospice setting rather than in a cell, infirmary, or hospital room.

Home modification projects to protect vulnerable individuals and families from harmful exposures to health and safety hazards, ramp installation and maintenance for qualifying individuals, and critical home repairs (roof, floor, bathroom, plumbing, etc.).

Assists veterans and their families in obtaining the local, state, and federal benefits that they are entitled to receive. This may include assistance in obtaining military records, compensation and pension benefits, education and retraining grants, health insurance, and veteran burial benefits.

Provides emergency assistance to people who experience natural or man-made disasters. Can provide emergency food, clothing, shelter, medical needs, and mental health.

Offers FIP (Family Investment Program) a cash assistance program for children and their families who have low income, also available to relatives caring for children whose parents are not in the home. The goal of FIP is to help families leave poverty and become self supporting, can participate for up to 60 months. FIP is Iowa's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.

Offers SERVSAFE® classes for food service professionals, providing comprehensive training on food hazards, proper food handling practices, and regulatory requirements to ensure food safety and prevent foodborne-illness outbreaks. 

DCFS has the primary responsibility of protecting children and strengthening families through the investigation and intervention of suspected child abuse or neglect by parents and other caregivers.

DCFS links families with community services to address struggles families are having, offers preventative services to referred families in an attempt to keep family units together to address findings of abuse/neglect, and works with families who have children under the legal custody of DCFS while working to reunify families when possible or provide a permanent home for children.

As part of its duties, DCFS also licenses and monitors all Illinois child welfare agencies, child care agencies, domestic and international adoption providers, and group homes in the state.

Provides adult day services to persons 60 and over or those with specific needs. Individuals participate in memory based activities, light exercise, arts and crafts, and games geared toward their needs. Staff assist with daily personal care activities, if needed, such as showering, grooming and personal care.

Can offer pick up and drop off services as well.

Provides referral services for housing, domestic violence and sexual assault services, and abuse cases. Immigration stress, isolation, language barriers, lack of awareness of the system or what to do and lack of extended family support significantly predispose and heighten crisis and mental health risks for foreign-born spouses. Many do not seek help because of stigma or cultural barriers and lack of support systems. The program provides empathy-first, culturally and trauma- informed, emotional support through trained volunteers and a warm line of first responders.

The Sioux City Human Rights Commission (SCHRC) is a neutral fact-finding agency that investigates complaints of discrimination. Only investigates cases of alleged discrimination that have both occurred in Sioux City and within the last 300 days. If the issue occurred outside city limits, the SCHRC can make a referral to an appropriate agency.
