VITA at Ascentra Credit Union
Provides free income tax return preparation for taxpayers earning up to $67,000 annually. Helps working families take advantage of all eligible tax credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit (CTC) and education credits. Volunteers from the community help prepare basic, current-year tax returns for eligible taxpayers.
Tax preparation is offered primarily in-person by appointment, with an option for walk-in services at the Martin Luther King Community Center (Rock Island).
**Appointments for in-person filing are made online only, beginning January 20, 2026.**

Center For Siouxland
VITA free tax preparation for seniors and low to moderate income individuals. Appointment line opens January 20, 2026, with appointments starting on February 2.
This is a year-round VITA site subject to volunteer availability. The site will remain open through June with regular hours and after June on an as-needed basis.
VITA can help file the previous 3 years’ returns; however, filer must have ALL tax forms for the previous years. There is no way for VITA to find this information.

Starting January 15, 2026, visit https://vita.unl.edu to schedule an appointment. Tax appointments begin Feb 1 and run through Apr 10 and are available at multiple sites in Lincoln. To see the days and times for all the locations, visit the website to download the site schedule.
Must make an appointment.
When scheduling an appointment, choose a site location and date. All location will be face-to-face; virtual preparation is available in addition to facilitated self-assistance (schedule an appointment under the 'Need Assistance' tab).
If Lincoln Public School and/or UNL is closed due to bad weather, all VITA sites are closed.
The scope of work that can be done within the VITA site is defined by the IRS. If a return is considered "out of scope" for the site, VITA Volunteers will not be able to prepare the return.
